Chapter 184 It’s Your Turn
Three days later, Carter finally saw Whitney again.
After a year apart, she looked brighter and more self-assured than ever. That confidence radiated from within.
Carter lowered his gaze, hiding the spark in his eyes.
Even though he was being so careful, Emily still caught it with a quick glance.
They exchanged polite nods, which was as much of a greeting as they were going to get.
Whitney didn’t even bother to spare Emily a glance.
If James hadn’t come to get them himself today, she and Klein wouldn’t have bothered to show up.
Klein was totally unfazed by the awkward atmosphere at the table. He just kept piling food onto Whitney’s plate like nothing was wrong.
James looked over, curious. “Didn’t you hate seaweed, Klein? What’s up with the sudden change?”
James couldn’t help but notice how Klein, who had avoided seaweed like the plague, was suddenly all about it.

Klein casually picked up some seaweed with his fork. “Yeah, I used to hate this stuff, but I did some research. Turns out seaweed is really good for health. They even say if you eat enough, you might end up with a daughter.”
Everyone at the table just stared in stunned silence.
Whitney instantly blushed.
She couldn’t believe Klein was saying this with everyone here.
‘It’s bad enough when he says stuff like that to me, but now he’s dragging the whole family into it?’ she grumbled.
Klein’s gaze lingered on Whitney’s blushing face as he chuckled softly. “Dad, if you keep staring at my wife, she’s going to get all shy.”
James rolled his eyes secretly.
‘Would anyone even be staring if he didn’t run his mouth?’ James thought, exasperated.
Carter watched as Klein and Whitney were all lovey-dovey, and his gaze turned gloomy.
‘When did Whitney stop even looking at me?’ Carter thought, a wave of sadness washing over him.
Sabrina was pretty taken aback. “Klein, you’re not hoping for a boy?”
‘Sons are the ones who keep the family going, Sabrina thought. ‘Other families might not have a lot of assets to inhent. But with the Harris family’s huge legacy, how are they supposed to manage without a son?”
Klein just shrugged, totally unfazed. “Boy or girl, it’s all the same to me. Whatever Whit ends up having, I’ll love them equally I just secretly hope for a daughter, that’s all.”
Klein shot back, “Sabrina, sounds like you’re rooting for a son, huh?”
Sabrina was caught off guard, left completely speechless by his comeback.
She couldn’t say yes, but she couldn’t say no either. The last thing she wanted was to be seen as somectie who only cared about having boys.
James shot Klein a look, silently telling him to dial it back.

“Alright, let’s just eat. If you want kids, have as many as you want. Our Harris family can totally afford it” James waved it off. Emily poked at her food with her fork, practically going crazy with jealousy.
‘Whitney is just disgustingly lucky, Emily couldn’t help but think
‘What does Uncle Klein even see in her? Why does he spoil her so much? Emily wondered, her heart twisting with envy Looking at herself, Emily just felt like a joke
Emily parted her lips, wanting to say something But with Klein right there, she didn’t dare speak up
After dinner, James rounded up all the people and took them off to his study
Emily finally got a chance to talk to Whitney one-on-one
“Whitney, I heard you and Uncle Klein are trying for a baby Got any updates?” Emily asked, her voice dripping with fake
sweetness.
With James out of the room, Whitney was done pretending to be civil with Emily’s phony act.

“None of your damn business, Whitney shot back.

Whitney rolled her eyes and said, “Worry about your own mess and quit bothering me. If Klein decides to banish you to th middle of nowhere again, don’t count on coming back.”
“You!” Emily snapped, her face flushing with anger.
Emily felt a knot in her chest. “Whitney, do you really have to be so harsh with me? Yeah, I know I stole the man you loved but Carter never loved you anyway.”
“Klein might be spoiling you now. But let’s face it. A woman needs a kid to keep her man around. Don’t fall for that ‘I want daughter’ talk. Just wait till you really have a daughter. He’ll be out there looking for someone else to give him a son.” “When that day comes, you’ll have no one to complain to. Don’t say didn’t warn you!” Emily sneered.
Whitney shot Emily a sideways glance, finding her snarky attitude more laughable than anything.
‘Emily, seriously, what do you think you’re worth? Is that all you are to men, a baby-making machine?” Whitney scoffed. ‘You don’t have your own career or dreams. All you ever do is try to tie a man down, treating every other woman like competition. But did you even get it? Men are like sand. The tighter you hold on, the faster they slip away.”
Women go for strong men, and vice versa.
Whitney wasn’t wishing anything bad on Emily. She just knew Emily’s marriage was doomed from the start.
Emily’s face turned livid. “Whitney, you’re just jealous of me!”
‘Yeah, I’m so jealous. Go ahead, keep living in your make-believe world,” Whitney shot back, her tone dripping with sarcas Whitney’s expression turned cold. “But Emily, Samuel Moore already got what was coming to him. Now, it’s your turn.” Emily’s face went ghostly pale.
‘W… what are you going to do to me?” she stammered, her voice trembling.
Whitney just gave her a faint smile and walked away, not bothering to waste another word on her.
Already feeling guilty, Emily slumped onto the couch like her soul had left her body.
Crap, she knows. She knows it all!’ Emily thought, panic flooding her chest.
There’s no way. She must know the boy isn’t really Carter’s kid!’ Emily’s mind spun, her heart pounding.
No way. I can’t just sit back and let everything blow up in my face; Emily thought, panic clawing at her chest.
I can’t let Whitney ruin the happiness I’ve worked so hard to snatch for myself!’ Emily’s heart hammered with desperation.
Emily met up with Tina, someone she hadn’t seen in forever.
‘Tina, what happened to you? You’re so tan now,” Emily blurted out, unable to hide her surprise.
Tina looked totally out of it, her eyes blank and lifeless. Her skin, which had been fair, now had a bronzed glow
Honestly, the tan made her look pretty healthy, but her eyes were just… off, like she was a doll with the lights out, no soul behind them.
Emily frowned, thinking, ‘Is she really this messed up just because her dad died?”
