Chapter 196 Don’t Loud Me

Chapter 196 Don’t Touch Mel

Whitney and Klein hurried to the cardiology ward

“Doctor, how’s my dad doing?” Klein asked, his voice tense.

The doctor tried to reassure them. “It’s nothing serious. At his age, it’s pretty common to have some heart and blood vessel problems. We’ll set up some tests tomorrow to check if his brain’s getting enough bloed. After that, we’ll give him some vasodilator shots to see if that helps with his dizziness and low oxygen levels ”

Whitney stood by James’s bedside. “Dad, it’s me, Whit. Are you feeling any better now?” James, with the oxygen tube in place, felt his eyelids grow heavy. He just wanted to sleep.

“It’s alright, Whit. You had a tough day. I’m sorry you had to put up with all that he said softly.

“It’s okay, really,” Whitney replied, her nose stinging as she suddenly thought of her grandma. She was honestly terrified of facing things like sickness and death.

“Dad, Klein’s really worried about you, so you have to get better. Lena’s due next month, and you haven’t seen your first great-granddaughter born,” Whitney said, trying to sound cheerful.

James smiled warmly. “That’s right. I have to stick around and wait for my lovely granddaughter to bring her little one into the world.”

George and the others arrived soon after.

But James really didn’t want to see them, especially his eldest daughter-in-law. Just seeing her put him in a bad mood.

His son was just as much of an annoyance.

Back when they adopted Emily, he’d already had

ervations about it.

And as expected, she’d ended up spoiled and good for nothing.

And Carter, his eldest grandson, was no better. He’d picked out the perfect fiancée for him, Whitney, but he just had to chase after that scheming Emily. No matter what he’d said, he wouldn’t listen.

He was obviously a lost cause too.

Just seeing them made James’s blood boil.

“Hey Mr. Harris, you need to calm down. Your blood pressure just shot up!” the doctor said, glancing at the monitor and quickly reminding him.

Klein’s eyes were shadowed and icy cold, making no effort to hide his disgust. “Sabrina, why don’t you leave? Carter, you stay here with me.”

“Dad was doing fine until you showed up and got him all worked up again,” Klein said coldly.

Carter and Sabrina blushed with embarrassment, but couldn’t say a word in protest.

They had no choice but to swallow their pride and do as they were told.

Carter was feeling pretty down himself. “Grandpa, I’m heading home for now. I’m sorry for not being a good grandson. When you’re feeling better, I’ll come back and apologize properly.”

As Carter left, his eyes lingered on Whitney, who was standing there so gentle and well-behaved, quietly off to the side. ‘All I feel is regret. Nothing but regret,’ Carter thought, his chest tight with remorse.

Sabrina glanced at Whitney out of the corner of her eye, biting her lips and forcing a smile. “Sorry, Whitney. I really let you down today. I’m sorry I wrongly accused you.”

She bowed deeply to Whitney and said,”I’m truly sorry.”

Klein had made it clear that a belated apology wasn’t enough anymore. A simple “sorry” just didn’t cut it now.

“Alright, just go home already,” Klein snapped, his voice cold and impatient.

His tone was icy and full of irritation.

Whitney kept quiet. Klein was backing her up, and she wasn’t about to make her own husband look bad.

She wasn’t some saint. If she forgave someone for disrespecting her once, they’d probably keep doing it over and over.

George let out a heavy sigh, feeling like he’d suddenly gotten years older.

James gave him a tap on the head and pointed at him, exasperated. “You’re so muddle-headed! You couldn’t even handle your own son, and you were trying to follow others and adopt a daughter?”

“If you keep this up yes’!! end up turning this house upside down’ James snapped.

eurge took a deep breath, determined. “Dad. I get it. I won’t go soft this time.”

“So what if I’ve been raising her for over twenty years? George thought to himself

Emily figured it was about time. The sky was starting to lighten, so she figured she could head home now.

But she was absolutely filthy and stinky.

To make it look like she’d really been kidnapped, Emily even cut a few shallow marks on her arms, making herself look even more pitiful.

She pulled out the one hundred bucks she’d stashed away and flagged down a taxi.

The driver shot her a look of pure disdain. “Miss, you smell pretty rough.”

Emily held it in. “Sorry. I just got kidnapped. Can you just drive me home, fast?”

“Wait, kidnapped? For real? And they just let you walk away?” the driver snorted.

Emily snapped back, “Is it so hard to believe I got away myself?”

“Yeah, sure, whatever you say! But honestly, you might wanna check into a psych ward first.”

Emily swallowed her bitterness and finally made it to the gates of Harris Manor.

The fare was one hundred and one, and she was a dollar short.

“Come on, miss. Your family’s

house staff for a dollar to pay you,” she grumbled.

She banged on the gate for ages, but the gate stayed firmly shut. Not a single soul came to let her in.

She was so anxious that she was on the verge of tears.

“Open up! It’s me, Emily! I’m Carter’s wife! I’m back. I made it out!” she cried, her voice shaking.

All she got in rests

U was dead silence.

The driver had put up with her stench the whole ride, and she even shorted him a buck. He was seriously pissed. “Ugh! What the hell is this?” he spat.

Then he gunned the engine and sped off, leaving a cloud of exhaust in his wake.

Emily kept knocking and yelling for a while before the gate finally opened.

She shot the butler an annoyed look. “Why did it take you so long to open up?”

The butler threw a big bag out the door.

“Ms. Miller, here’s all your stuff we packed up for you. You’d better leave now. If Carter catches you here, he’ll be very mad,” the butler said coldly.

“Have you lost your mind? I’m Emily Miller! I’m Carter’s wife, for crying out loud!” Emily yelled, her voice trembling with disbelief and anger.

Carter stepped out from behind the butler and flung a stack of divorce papers right at her feet.
