Skipped At The Altar, Taken By His Uncle novel Chapter 199

Chapter 199

Sabrina couldn’t handle the set that her son had barely settled back in before he was about to head abroad again.

Her daughter-in-law was gone, and now her son was leaving too.

She put all the blame on Klein and Whitney,

“Klein, are you really going to force your nephew to leave the country again?” Sabrina demanded.

Klein frowned. “I don’t get what you’re saying.”

“How can you not get it? You’re once again sending Carter away, all because of Whitney. What will people say if this gets out?” Sabrina pressed.

“Mom,” Carter tried to interrupt.

“I’m the one who asked to go abroad!” he explained.

Sabrina wasn’t convinced. “Why? Carter, why are you so set on going abroad? Uncle Klein must have forced you, right?”

“No! This has nothing to do with Uncle Klein! I just don’t want to waste my time here doing nothing. I want to challenge myself abroad!” Carter shot back.

“This isn’t up for discussion. My decision to go abroad has nothing to do with anyone else. I’m thankful to Uncle Klein for the opportunity, Mom. Please stop making a fuss!” Carter said firmly.

Sabrina couldn’t help but feel heartbroken.

Her son was heading abroad again, and hadn’t even settled down with anyone yet. Who knew when he’d ever come back?

The hope of holding a grandchild seemed like a distant fantasy now.

Klein was done dealing with Sabrina’s drama, and his patience for her was wearing dangerously thin.

If she kept this up, he might just show her the door himself next time.

Once everything settled down, Sabrina was left feeling gloomy and restless, going on and on to George about it every single day.

He was at his wit’s end. “If you keep nagging me when I come home, we’re getting divorced.”

George put all the blame for raising a failed adopted daughter on Sabrina.

He was convinced that Emily had become such an ingrate because of Sabrina.

Sabrina finally snapped, “George, you never care about this family, and now you’re blaming me? You were the one who insisted on adopting Emily, claimed you were like family with the Millers, and told me to go easy on her and treat her lik my own daughter. Who knew the girl we took in would turn out to be such a snake?”

“If you don’t want to be married anymore, fine by me. I’m done with this too. Do you think I don’t know you’ve got woman on the side?!” Sabrina shouted.

Fuming, Sabrina packed up her stuff and moved back in with her folks.

One day, Whitney and Klein came back to Harris Manor for dinner, and James was the only one left, all alone in the big

It was like hed aged several years in just a few days.

He’d always had a gentle, kind sinile, but now his face was stern, all the warmth gone.

“Dad, how about Klein and I move back home to keep you company?” Whitney suggested softly.

James waved his hand and said, “Forget it. You young couple should be enjoying your life together, not spending your days with an old man like me.”

“I’m already one foot in the grave,”

Klein shrugged. “Guess that’s true.”

‘Seriously?’ James thought, glaring at Klein.

If Klein said one more word, James would definitely smack his smart-mouthed son.

“Dad, how about I find you a girlfriend?” Klein joked.

James threw his cane at him, but Klein dodged it easily.

“Come on, Dad, can’t you take a joke?” Klein grinned.

Whitney couldn’t help but roll her eyes. ‘He totally had it coming,’ she thought.

‘He’s really going to piss James off with all this teasing.’ Whitney thought to herself.

But as the banter went on, she could literally see James’s mood getting better.

After dinner, Klein gave Whitney a playful pat. “See? I’ve got a knack for cheering up my dad, don’t I?”

“Are you sure you’re not just trying to rile him up?” Whitney teased.

“No way! I’d never mess with my dad. I’m counting on him to be on grandpa duty when the baby comes,” Klein grinned.

‘He sure knows how to keep James on his toes,’ Whitney thought.

*************

After they got home, Whitney, having dealt with one thing after another lately, just wanted to take a break and unwind over

the weekend.

“How about we go on a trip, just the two of us? Any place you want to check out? Or do you want to hit up another island?” Klein suggested.

Whitney shook her head and said, “Nah, islands are kind of boring now. Been there twice already, and honestly, it’s getting old. I think it’d be way more fun if there were more people around.”

“I want to go somewhere lively, with real street life,” Whitney said.

Whitney’s offhand comment had Klein wracking his brain for the perfect spot.

The next day at the office, Ryan was bugging Klein about joining the company’s annual camping retreat.

Chapter 190

*amping fumm Klein wondered.

Ryan shrugged. “Yeah, it’s not bad. You find a campsite and sleep in a tent. Some tents have big beds, and some are more basic. In the morning you caffcatch the sunrise. At night there’s usually a bonne and a BBQ. It’s a good time?

“It’s actually pretty fun when young people hang out together,” Ryan said.

Right after Ryan said that, he realized he might’ve just accidentally called his boss old.

They both spoke up at the same time.

“Count me and my wife in,” Klein said.

“Boss, I’m not that young myself,” Ryan added.

Klein raised his eyebrows. “Ryan, there’s a business trip to the far west next month. You can head out right after the camping trip.”

“Oh, and relax, Ryan. I’m not sending you there for revenge or anything. That place is beautiful. You’ll get to travel for work and sneak in some sightseeing, right?” Klein teased.

Ryan looked like he was about to cry. “Mr. Harris…”

‘I really should have watched my tongue, Klein thought.

*********

As soon as Klein got home, he brought up the camping trip to Whitney.

Whitney frowned. “But Klein, at my company, only my mentor and Mr. Barton know about us. But at your office…”

“Maybe that’s not such a good idea,” Whitney said.

Klein pursed his lips and said, “So we still can’t make it official?”

Whitney flashed a teasing smile, hugging his arm and giving it a little shake. “Just wait a bit longer, okay? Let’s wait until I’m pregnant, then we’ll tell them!”
