After sending a message to her boss asking for the day off, she went to the kitchen, picked up a bucket of water, and lugged it upstairs.

April’s eyes widened in shock when she saw Whitney. Ma’am, what on earth are you doing?

Is Grandma awake?Whitney asked.

April hesitated before answering, Yes, she’s awake. She’s taking her medicine.

Whitney nodded. I’m going to check on Grandma.

Patricia had just gotten up when she saw Whitney’s face.

Whit, did you get back last night?Patricia asked.

Whitney’s eyes were rimmed with red. Grandma, did he force you to come back?

Patricia felt a pang of sympathy for Whitney and pulled her down to sit beside her. Whit, he didn’t force me to do anything. I wanted to come back. Your dad’s not that heartless. He’s just a bit too obsessed with money.

I’ve been feeling pretty good these past few years, so it’s actually pretty nice to be back here.

Besides, those nursing home fees are skyhigh. It’d be way too much for you to handle on your salary. I don’t want you to wear yourself out.

You said you didn’t want to get married, right? Well, I’m with you all the way, Whit. I promise I won’t ever be the one to hold you back.”

Patricia couldn’t bring herself to criticize Samuel in front of Whitney.

She had to leave some room for things to cool off between Whitney and Samuel.

Anyway, she was old now. It didn’t really matter where she lived. Even if she went back to the villa, Samuel wouldn’t mistreat her.

Whitney’s nose stung again at her words.

Grandma, I can’t just let this go. No matter what happens upstairs, please stay down here, okay?Whitney said. I’m not a little girl anymore. I’m not his puppet. He can’t push me around.

Patricia wanted to stop her, but she simply couldn’t.

She let out a soft sigh, thinking, As long as Whitney was standing up for herself, I’ll let her be. No matter what kind of trouble she stirs up, I’ll always have her back.

Whitney wiped away her tears, steeling herself as she made her way toward her father and stepmother’s bedroom.

She banged on the door nonstop.

Samuel had just dragged himself home from a latenight business dinner and barely had time to close his eyes before the noise snapped him awake.

Who is it?he snapped, rolling over in annoyance.

Laura stirred, groggy and confused.

Who the hell has the guts to wake us up this early?Laura grumbled to herself.

Laura opened the door, looking pissed off, but before she could even spit out a curse, Whitney drenched her with a bucket of water.

Ahh!Laura shrieked.

She blinked, trying to process who just drenched her, and finally realized it was Whitney standing at the door.

Whitney, have you lost your mind?Laura snapped.

Whitney scoffed, then hurled the rest of the bucket of water straight at her father’s back as he lay in bed.

I’m not the crazy one here, but you two are,Whitney snapped. I said I’d pay for Grandma’s nursing home fees. So what was the point of sneaking her back behind my back? Did you think you could threaten me?

The icy water jolted Samuel awake, leaving him soaked and shivering.

He stared at Whitney in utter disbelief. He couldn’t believe his eldest daughter would dare defy him like this.

Samuel’s face darkened with fury. Whitney, do you even realize what you’re doing?

Whitney lifted her chin defiantly. I know exactly what I’m doing. I’m here to knock some sense into you, you ungrateful and shameless bastards.

Samuel shot up from the bed, his mind burning with rage as he stormed straight toward her, about to hit her.

But no one saw it coming that Whitney grabbed a vase from the side table and raised it high above her head. Lay a finger on me, and your precious vase will be gone.

Samuel’s eyes locked onto his favorite vase, veins bulging on his forehead. Whitney, what the hell do you think you’re doing? If you dare smash that vase, you’re out of the house for good.

Whitney let out a mocking laugh. Oh yeah? Then go ahead and write that letter cutting me off. If you don’t, I’ll just think you’re all talk.”

With that, she smashed the ancient vase right at Samuel’s feet.

The shards scattered everywhere, and for a moment, Samuel felt like his heart had stopped beating.

YouWell, well, you really think you can do whatever you want now, huh?Samuel roared.

Whitney gave a careless, mocking grin. Is this another one of your precious treasures?

Samuel clutched his chest, agony written all over his face. Don’t break it.

Before Whitney could even finish, she slammed it down hard right at Laura’s feet.

Let me make this clear, I’m taking Grandma with me today. Try to stop me, and every antique you own is getting smashed, until there’s nothing left,Whitney warned.

Whitney smirked, lips curled in defiance. Want to call me a brat, huh? Sorry, I’m just giving you a taste of your own medicine.

Samuel stared at the shattered pieces on the floor, heart aching. He didn’t even notice his clothes were still dripping wet.

She’s crazy. Totally crazy,” Laura kept muttering, unable to believe what she was seeing.

Samuel, your daughter’s gone crazy. Did you see her eyes just now? She looked like she was ready to tear us apart,Laura shrieked.

No way, Whitney can’t ever come back here. And you, you need to send your mother packing too. Neither of them is ever setting foot in this house again,Laura demanded.

What if next time she’s got a knife in her hand instead of a vase?Laura blurted out.

Laura was still rattled. That cold, determined look in Whitney’s eyes had truly shaken her to the core.

Samuel’s face kept flushing red then turning pale, while outside, a few nervous servants gathered together, staring in stunned silence at the chaos inside.

Samuel choked on his anger. What are you all standing around for? Get in here and clean this mess up.

Whitney strolled downstairs, cool as ever, and helped her grandma out for breakfast.

Patricia had heard all the banging and crashing upstairs, but she didn’t bother going up. She just asked April, totally chill, Did Whit come out on top?

April shot Patricia a speechless look. Pretty much, yeah.”

Patricia let out a sigh of relief and just dug into her breakfast, not asking anything else.

When Samuel and Laura came downstairs, they glanced at Whitney with a new hint of caution in their eyes.

Mom, Whitney’s always been scared of you. Aren’t you going to do something about her?Samuel snapped, his face twisted with rage.

If Whitney wasn’t about to marry into the Harris family in a few days, Samuel would’ve slapped her silly right

Patricia calmly took a sip of her porridge. If I can’t even keep my own son in line, what makes you think I can control my granddaughter?
