Chapter 123: Chapter 123

Kael’s POV

The door opened. Two figures walked in. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞

Elder Theron. Elder Helena.

"Alpha Blood Crown." Elder Theron bowed his head. Helena followed. "We apologize for the intrusion."

"No, you don’t."

His lips twitched. Almost a smile.

"No," he admitted. "We don’t."

They arranged themselves in front of my desk. Two pairs of eyes. Two faces full of concern and expectation and that particular brand of elderly stubbornness that made me want to throw things.

"Let me guess." I leaned back in my chair. Crossed my arms. "You’re here to talk about the Luna situation again."

Elder Helena stepped forward. She was the older of the two. White hair pulled back severely. Eyes that had seen five generations of Alpha transitions.

"The pack is worried, Alpha. With good reason." Her voice was gentle but firm. "You’ve been Alpha for three years now. Three years without a Luna. Three years without an heir. The bloodline—"

"The bloodline is FINE." The words came out sharper than I intended. "I’m alive. I’m healthy. I’m not going anywhere."

"An Alpha needs a Luna," Elder Theron chimed in. His voice was deep. Gravelly. Like stones grinding together. "Not just for heirs. For balance. For support. The responsibilities you carry... they’re too much for one wolf."

"I’ve been carrying them just fine."

"Have you?" He fixed me with a knowing stare.

I said nothing.

Because he was right.

"The pack sees you, Kael." Helena used my name. Not my title. The informality was deliberate. Pointed. "They see their Alpha driving himself into the ground. They see a leader who has no one to share his burden. They worry."

"You’re their Alpha. They love you. They want to see you happy."

I turned away. Walked to the window. Stared out at the territory spread below.

"I haven’t met my fated mate." The words came out flat. Final. "Until I do, I can’t choose a Luna."

Silence behind me.

Then Elder Theron cleared his throat.

"Alpha... with all due respect... perhaps it’s time to consider alternatives."

I turned back. Slowly.

"Alternatives?"

"Not all Alphas marry their fated mates." His voice was careful. Measured. "Some choose partners based on compatibility. Political advantage. Mutual respect. It’s not ideal, but it’s practical."

The elders exchanged glances.

I could see them calculating. Weighing options. Trying to figure out how to push harder without pushing me over the edge.

"There is another option," Elder Helena said finally. "Something we’ve done in the past."

"What?"

"A gathering. A ball." She paused. "An opportunity for eligible females across the territory to present themselves. To meet the Alpha. To see if any connection exists."

I stared at her.

"You want me to hold a singles ball."

"We want you to give yourself a CHANCE." Her voice hardened slightly.

She let the sentence hang.

I pressed my fingers against the bridge of my nose. My head was pounding. My patience was gone.

"Fine."

The word escaped before I could stop it.

Two pairs of eyes widened.

"Fine?" Helena repeated.

"I’ll consider it." I dropped my hand. Fixed them with a hard stare. "CONSIDER. Not agree. Not commit. Consider."
