Chapter 150: Chapter 150

Aria’s POV

I slipped my phone back into my pocket.

My hands were still shaking. From the hangover. From the shock of finding Kael Blood Crown sleeping on my couch with my daughter.

From everything.

I just stood there. Watching them.

The mighty Alpha. The most powerful wolf in the territory. Sprawled on my tiny, worn-out couch like it was the most comfortable place in the world.

With Lina curled up on his chest like a kitten.

It was... surreal.

Neither of us spoke.

The moment stretched. Awkward. Heavy with unspoken questions.

Then Kael’s gaze dropped to Lina. His expression softened immediately. That hard Alpha mask melting into something gentler.

Something that made my chest ache.

He moved carefully. So carefully. Like she was made of glass.

One hand supported her back. The other cradled her head. He sat up slowly, keeping her nestled against his chest.

She didn’t wake. Just made a small sound and snuggled closer.

Kael stood. Smooth. Steady. Like carrying a sleeping child was second nature to him.

I watched him walk past me. Down the hallway. Toward Lina’s room.

He knew where it was.

How did he know where it was?

The door opened quietly. He disappeared inside.

I heard soft footsteps. The creak of Lina’s bed. A gentle rustling of blankets.

Then silence.

Kael emerged a moment later. Pulling the door mostly closed behind him. Leaving it open just a crack.

The same way I always did. So I could hear if Lina called for me in the night.

He turned. Started walking back toward the living room.

Then he stopped.

His eyes dropped to my feet.

I followed his gaze.

Oh.

I wasn’t wearing shoes. Or socks. Just bare feet on the cold floor.

His jaw tightened. Those eyes narrowed into a glare that would have made any wolf submit immediately.

"What?" I whispered. Keeping my voice low so we wouldn’t wake Lina.

He didn’t answer.

Just walked straight toward me. Fast. Purposeful.

Before I could react, he bent down. Scooped me up like I weighed nothing.

"HEY!" The protest came out louder than I intended. "What are you—put me DOWN!"

"No."

His voice was flat. Final. That Alpha command tone that brooked no argument.

He carried me to the couch. Set me down gently. Then turned on his heel and marched toward my bedroom.

I sat there. Stunned.

What just happened?

Kael reappeared a moment later. Holding my slippers.

My fluffy, ridiculous, bunny-shaped slippers that Lina had insisted I buy.

He knelt in front of me. Actually KNELT. The Alpha Blood Crown. On his knees in my living room.

And carefully slid each slipper onto my feet.

"You’ll get sick." His voice was gruff. Almost scolding. "The floor is cold. You just recovered from being drunk. You need to take care of yourself."

I blinked.

"There." He stood. Dusted off his pants like he’d just completed some important mission. "Better."

I looked down at my feet. At the ridiculous pink bunnies staring back at me.

Then up at him. 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚

He was watching me with that intense expression. Like he was waiting for me to say something.

I should say thank you. That would be the polite thing.

Instead, what came out was: "I didn’t know you and Lina were so close now."

His expression shifted. Surprise. Then something almost like... embarrassment?

"She’s been telling me she hates you, you know." I couldn’t help the slight smile. "Every day. ’That bad man who hurt Uncle Cassius.’ Those were her exact words."

Kael’s jaw tightened. He looked away.

"About that." He cleared his throat. Shifted his weight. Looking more uncomfortable than I’d ever seen him. "About what happened that night."

I waited.

"I..." He ran a hand through his hair. Messing it up even more. "I was wrong."

The words hung in the air.

I stared at him.

"What?"

"I was wrong." He said it again. Clearer this time. Meeting my eyes directly. "That night. I lost control. I was jealous and possessive and I jumped to conclusions without thinking."

My heart was pounding.

"I hurt someone who was important to you. Someone who had been taking care of you and Lina. Someone who didn’t deserve my anger." He took a breath. "I’m sorry, Aria. Truly. It won’t happen again."

I forgot how to breathe.

He was standing in my living room. In yesterday’s wrinkled suit. Looking at me with genuine remorse.

"And if..." He continued, his voice softer now. "If I ever get the chance to see Cassius again, I’ll apologize to him too. Properly."

Something warm bloomed in my chest.

I picked up the spoon.

Scooped up a small amount.

Brought it to my lips.

"Lina and I worked really hard on it," Kael added quickly. "We followed a recipe. Mostly. And we cleaned up all the egg from the ceiling."

"The ceiling?"

"Don’t ask."

I put the spoon in my mouth.

And immediately regretted every decision that led to this moment.

Oh no.

OH NO.

It was bad.

Really bad.

The rice was both mushy AND crunchy somehow. The vegetables were undercooked. The egg was overcooked. And there was way too much salt. Or not enough? I couldn’t tell. Everything tasted wrong.

My face scrunched up automatically. My whole body recoiled.

I wanted to spit it out.

But Kael was watching me with those hopeful eyes. Those nervous, uncertain, completely un-Alpha-like eyes.

Waiting for my reaction.

"MOMMY! MOMMY YOU’RE AWAKE!"

Lina’s voice exploded from the hallway.

I turned.

She came running into the kitchen. Still in her pajamas. Hair sticking up everywhere. Face bright with excitement.

"You’re up! You’re UP!" She crashed into my legs. Hugged them tight. "I was so worried! You were so sick last night! But I took care of you! Me and—"

She noticed Kael. Her whole face lit up even more.

"And HIM! We took care of you together!" She bounced on her feet. "Did you try the soup? Did you? We made it special for you! It took SO long and we got egg EVERYWHERE but we cleaned it up!"

She grabbed my arm. Shook it.

"How is it, Mommy? How’s our soup?"

She looked so proud.

My throat tightened.

I swallowed the mouthful.

Forced it down.

Every terrible, salty, mushy, crunchy bite.

Smiled.

And said the only thing I could say.

"It’s delicious, baby. Really good!"
