Chapter 36: Chapter 36

Kael’s POV

I should have left.

Should have gotten in my car and driven away. Should have told myself she meant nothing. That she was just another Shadow Moon whore who’d chosen her ex-husband the moment my back was turned.

But I didn’t leave.

I followed them.

*Something’s wrong,* Fenrir growled. *She wouldn’t go with him willingly. Not after everything.*

"Shut up," I muttered. My knuckles were white on the steering wheel. "You saw what I saw. She was all over him."

*She could barely stand. Her scent was off. Wrong.*

I didn’t want to listen. Didn’t want to hope. Hope was dangerous. Hope made you weak.

But my wolf wouldn’t shut up. And deep down—deeper than I wanted to admit—something in my gut screamed that Fenrir was right.

So I followed.

Kept my distance. Lights off. Engine quiet. The black sedan wound through the city streets. Away from The Pit. Away from Blood Crown territory.

Toward Shadow Moon.

No.

Not Shadow Moon.

The Nightfang estate.

My blood ran cold.

Why would Finn bring her here? To his family’s house? After everything that had happened at the school?

Unless...

The car pulled through the gates. I parked a block away. Got out. Started walking.

The estate was dark. No lights in the windows. No cars in the driveway except Finn’s sedan.

Empty.

Too empty.

I circled the perimeter. Found a side entrance. The lock was old. Cheap. One hard kick and it gave way.

The house swallowed me in darkness.

I moved through the shadows. Silent. Predatory. Every sense on high alert.

Where was she?

Then I heard it.

A scream.

Aria’s scream.

The sound ripped through my chest like a bullet. Fenrir exploded forward. My vision flooded gold. My canines lengthened. Claws burst from my fingertips.

I ran.

Up the stairs. Down the hallway. Following her voice. Following her scent—moonflowers and rain and something else. Something chemical. Something wrong.

"HELP! PLEASE—ANYONE—"

Her voice cut off. Replaced by the sound of impact. Of pain.

I found the door. Didn’t slow down.

My shoulder connected with the wood. It exploded inward. Splinters flew.

And I saw.

Aria.

On the floor. Curled into a ball. Her dress torn to shreds. Bruises blooming across her ribs. Blood on her lip. Tears streaming down her face.

Finn stood over her. His fist raised. Ready to strike again.

Everything went red.

"GET AWAY FROM HER!"

The roar that tore from my throat wasn’t human. Wasn’t Alpha. It was pure wolf. Pure rage. Pure murder.

Finn spun around. His eyes went wide.

I didn’t give him time to react. 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚

I crossed the room in three strides. My fist connected with his jaw. The crack of bone was music.

He flew backward. Hit the wall. Slid down.

But I wasn’t done.

"You think you can touch her?" I grabbed him by the throat. Hauled him up. Slammed him against the wall again. "You think you can hurt what’s MINE?"

Fear. Real fear. I saw it in his eyes.

Good.

He should be afraid.

"She’s—" Finn choked. Clawed at my grip. "She’s my wife—"

"She’s NOT your wife." I squeezed harder. "She rejected you. In front of everyone. The bond is broken."

"You don’t—understand—"

"I understand perfectly." My voice dropped. Deadly calm. "You drugged her. Kidnapped her. Tried to force yourself on her."

His face was turning purple. His struggles were getting weaker.

I could kill him. Right now. Just squeeze a little harder. Watch the life drain from his eyes.

Fenrir howled for blood. Demanded it.

But Finn wasn’t going down without a fight.
