Hearing this, both Shirley and Yvonne's faces went pale.
Most of the villagers had already moved out. The only grandmother and granddaughter they knew who still lived here were Clara and her elderly grandma.
That young girl, born into poverty and faced with hardship, yet always optimistic—she was raped and murdered last night?!
Yvonne glanced at the police tape cordoning off the area and instinctively ran toward it.
"Yvonne, where are you going?" Shirley shouted, quickly running after her.
One after the other, they ran to Clara's house.
But the house was now surrounded by police tape, with no unauthorized entry allowed.
Police cars and an ambulance were parked out front.
Paramedics carried out two stretchers. The figures on them were covered with white sheets, clearly deceased.
The police were still examining the scene, prohibiting anyone from entering.
Yvonne, Shirley, and a few other onlookers were kept outside the perimeter.
But even from the entrance, Yvonne could smell the heavy scent of blood hanging in the air.
As the stretchers were carried past them, a hand fell from under one of the white sheets. It was tightly clutching the lipstick Yvonne had given her.
It was Clara's body. The only piece of makeup she had ever used in her life was that lipstick from Yvonne, and she held onto it even in death.
The police were still investigating and began to disperse the crowd.
Shirley was timid and tugged on Yvonne's sleeve. "Yvonne, let's go back."
"Okay," Yvonne nodded.
She wasn't a police officer anymore. She couldn't enter the crime scene or examine the bodies, so all she could do was leave.
They returned to the crew's van. Just as they got on, they heard Luna complaining from the back seat. She was holding a limited-edition designer bottle, sipping water.
"I came out to film a show, all happy, and we run into a murder case. What bad luck. These poor people really know how to pick a time to die. Not earlier, not later, but right now..."
"Shut up!" Before Luna could finish, Yvonne grabbed her bag from the seat and threw it at her. The bag hit Luna in the chest, knocking the bottle from her hand and splashing water all over her.
