After that, they started a cold war that had now lasted a week.
Noah pulled the car into the villa’s garage. The moment the car stopped, Cynthia pushed open her door and got out.
Noah killed the engine and hurried after her.
Back in the house, Cynthia went straight to the bathroom for a shower.
While schmoozing with everyone at the Thompson estate wasn't difficult for her, trying to please everyone and be completely faultless was genuinely exhausting.
When Cynthia stepped out of the bathroom, she found Noah waiting for her by the door.
He had taken off his jacket and was dressed in a simple shirt and slacks.
“Are you still mad at me?” Noah asked, wrapping his arms around her from behind, trapping her in his embrace.
Cynthia didn’t struggle, but she didn’t respond either. The tense atmosphere returned.
“Cynthia, it’s all my fault. I shouldn’t have argued with you, shouldn’t have made you angry. Please say something. Even hitting me would be better than this.”
When she remained silent, Noah took her hand and tried to make her slap him.
Cynthia frowned and pulled her hand away.
“I knew you wouldn’t have the heart to,” Noah said, pulling her back into his arms.
Cynthia looked up and glared at him. “I’d rather not. It would hurt my hand.”
Noah leaned in to kiss her, but she raised a hand to block his lips.
Cynthia nodded. “I know. You’re not a doctor or a nurse, so you can’t really do anything. But you’re her father, and your presence gives your ex-wife a sense of security. I’m tired. I’m going to bed. You can go. Don’t rush back.”
With that, Cynthia pushed Noah out of the bedroom and slammed the door shut with a resounding bang.
Unsurprisingly, Noah didn't come back that night.
It was the same as all the other times. He would promise to be back soon, but the moment Nicola cried and clung to his clothes, begging him not to leave, he would end up staying to be with his daughter.
Cynthia slept alone. It wasn't a good night's sleep, but it wasn't a bad one either.
The next morning, the maid, Gina, had already prepared breakfast. Seeing Cynthia emerge from the bedroom, she greeted her with a smile.
Cynthia and Noah were both busy with work and neither was a great cook, so they had hired Gina from a housekeeping agency to prepare their three daily meals.
