"I was just being clumsy. I dropped the cake on myself and got frosting all over," Cynthia said, downplaying the incident.
Mrs. Gable didn't press the matter. She efficiently pulled a clean set of clothes from the closet and handed them to Cynthia.
"Put these in the bathroom for me, and draw a bath while you're at it," Cynthia said.
"A bath now? Aren't you going back to the party?" Mrs. Gable asked, confused.
"No. I'm a bit tired. I want to rest after my bath. Don't let anyone disturb me." With that, Cynthia, still in her soiled clothes, walked directly into the bathroom.
Yvonne and Bennett left after seeing Cynthia back to her room.
However, they didn't return to the party. Instead, they took a leisurely stroll around the island.
The island's scenery and climate were pleasant. The evening breeze was refreshing, dispersing the summer heat.
Bennett held Yvonne's hand as they walked along the beach, eventually finding their way to the island's amusement park.
The park wasn't large, but it had all the popular rides. Since Yvonne was pregnant, she couldn't go on any of the thrilling ones, so Bennett accompanied her on the carousel and the Ferris wheel.
The Ferris wheel was several hundred feet high. At its peak, you could see the entire island.
The island's night view was quite beautiful.
"If you like it here, we can come back for a vacation every year," Bennett said, his gaze softening as he looked at Yvonne's belly. "We can bring the baby with us."
"Okay," Yvonne replied with a warm smile.
The Thompson family had only bought this island in recent years. Back when Yvonne and Bennett were together, the island was still under development. Even then, Bennett had said the same thing.
But before the island was even finished, Yvonne had died.
"Okay," Noah nodded, forced to attend to his daughter first.
"Aunt Yvonne, will you ride with me?" Nicola, who seemed to like Yvonne, ran over and hugged her arm.
"Aunt Yvonne just went for a ride. You should go with your daddy," Yvonne replied with a gentle smile.
"Can't you ride it again just because you already did?" Nicola asked, blinking as her lips turning downward into a clear pout.
"Nicola!" Noah chided his daughter quietly, then pulled her onto the Ferris wheel.
Bennett put his arm around Yvonne and they walked out of the amusement park. Yvonne couldn't help but look back toward the Ferris wheel.
Because it was so tall, she could faintly see the silhouettes of Noah and Nicola against the night sky.
