Chapter 106 A Jealous Heart Revealed
After he obtained an enormous sum of money from that sale, he had finally risen to prominence and secured the position he enjoyed today.
What he hadn’t expected was that Cain had gone and tested the authenticity of the drakeblood gemstone. Back when Darius had forged the fake, it had been indistinguishable from the real thing. So, he had assumed that Cain would never discover the truth in this lifetime.
Meanwhile, Evan had no idea that a storm was quietly gathering. Instead, he remained fully immersed in cultivation.
After he had refined the lotus crown fruit, he had completely stabilized the Second Stage of the Ninefold Arcane Arts. That meant he was now capable of refining the Leighton family’s life–saving drug. Now, all he had to do was gather the remaining ingredients.
He also had the solution to Gaius‘ illness and the malignant presence afflicting Ivana.
Everything was finally falling into place. The only thing that felt off was Sylvie.
The girl was usually cheerful and lively, and she would follow him around like a shadow whenever Evan wasn’t cultivating. Yet, she had gone unusually quiet after that day, her face clouded with worry.
“What’s wrong?” Evan asked, unable to help himself.
When Sylvie saw him initiating a conversation, a smile instinctively surfaced on her face. Alas, the smile disappeared just as quickly. “It’s nothing…” She let out a soft sigh.
Her hesitant attitude gave Evan a headache. Just as he was about to press further, Ivana’s call came. To make matters worse, the first thing she asked was, “Is my niece okay?”
As he thought about Sylvie’s strange behavior, he immediately asked Ivana what was going on. However, Ivana sounded utterly unbothered. “It’s nothing serious. The girl’s just jealous.”
“Jealous?” Evan’s heart skipped. He blurted out instinctively, “But I haven’t been around any other women.”
The only ones he’d had contact with were the three heiresses, but he couldn’t care less about them anymore.
“Evan, you just told on yourself,” Ivana laughed lightly before adding, “It’s not your fault. Still… you are technically the reason why she’s behaving like that.”
That answer left Evan even more confused. Ivana then explained the whole situation. Only then did everything click.
It turned out that although Evan’s deed of saving Gaius had been kept under tight wraps, certain people with special status still knew about it. For example, powerful figures like the mayor, the Director of Finance, and the Director of Security.
It wouldn’t have been a problem, except they were all desperate to learn the identity of the legendary doctor who had saved Gaius.
Gaius had initially kept his lips sealed. Unfortunately, he accidentally let something slip after being pestered over and over agai
He had accidentally told them that the doctor was very young and was barely in his 20s. That one comment sent the entire inner circle into an uproar.
Soon, the focus of their inquiries quickly shifted–from who the legendary doctor was, to whether he was married, or if he already had someone he liked.
Their motivations were similar to Aria’s and Victor’s. After all, who wouldn’t want to claim a doctor of such extraordinary skill? Regardless, there was another layer to it. They were betting on the legendary doctor’s future.

After all, he was deeply tied to Gaius, the Iron Dragon of South Dominion. Whoever managed to make him a son–in–law would effectively forge a direct connection with the Iron Dragon himself.
Although Gaius had made it clear that the man was already taken, by his own granddaughter no less, those people didn’t mind in the slightest. Some openly declared they were willing to be a “secondary option.”
It certainly didn’t help that the way they promoted their daughters was downright terrifying.
They praised them to the heavens, some even attaching photos and basic profiles, claiming that they would immediately arrange a meeting between their daughters and Evan if he found them appealing.
Evan was dumbfounded after hearing all of it. “All this… is just because of that?”
