Sorry Too Late (by J.J. Twelve) novel Chapter 175

Chapter 175 The Warning They Failed to Hear

Evan actually stayedsomething none of them had expected.

Once again, he refused to play by their rules.

By their logic, he should’ve explodedraging, fighting, screaming. They’d even been ready to order the guards to restrain him. But instead, he simply agreed to stay. The sudden compliance left Darius feeling as if he’d driven a fullforce punch into cotton.

What is that boy playing at?

After settling Evan in a small, isolated room on the far side of the estate, James gathered all the senior branch members for discussion. They were baffled.

It didn’t make sense.

Suddenly, Josephine’s expression shifted. He’s not pinning his hopes on us, is he? Does he think that if he stays the night, we’ll change our minds?

I don’t think so,Alice said with a shake of her head. I could tellEvan didn’t stay reluctantly. He genuinely intended to remain here.

It’s almost as if keeping him here is exactly what he wanted.

Could he have some plan to escape?Beverly and Colette reasoned together, arriving at that possibility.

Impossible. There’s no breaking out of a dead end like this.James dismissed the idea at once.

The triplets exchanged glances but said nothing. Instead, Evan’s earlier words echoed more clearly in their minds -this wouldn’t be his last supper.

They hadn’t taken it seriously before. They’d thought he was boasting, but nowsomething felt off.

Suddenly, Colette’s eyes lit up as a thought struck her. She turned to Darius. Didn’t a few of your competitors meet with Evan before? Could it be them?

Everyone stiffened instantly.

As the Norwood family rose to prominence, Dariusreputation skyrocketed as well, inevitably drawing rivals out of the woodwork.

Those rivals had once approached Evanat the time an adopted member of the Solberg familyhoping to join forces and drag Darius down. But Evan had refused, unwilling to have anything to do with the Norwoods.

Darius chuckled at the mention. No way, Colette. My competitors would love to destroy me, but they’ve already missed their best chance.

Everyone’s hearts tightened. They understood immediately.

If they’d moved the moment Mr. Solomon discovered the gemstone was fake, they might’ve had a shot. But after that, I built a clean chain of evidence and shoved Evan into the role of scapegoat. They won’t find proof now. They had one windowthen it closed.

Pride tugged at the corners of Dariusmouth as he spoke.

With the rivals ruled out, Alice and her sisters couldn’t help praising him. Darius, you really are the true heir. You think ten steps ahead. Ruthless, preciseAnyone who stands against you is doomed.

Evan was no amateur when it came to business; in fact, the triplets had personally taught him. Yet somehow, Darius still managed to toy with him with ease.

Their discussion about Evan’s strange behavior fizzled out. There was no point in dwelling on it. Cain/would arrive in Silverton the next day.

None of them could have imagined that the man they treated as helpless preywho in their eyes was already carved up and ready for the chopping blockheld every piece of evidence that could destroy Darius and overturn the entire situation.

That was the key to flipping the board.

The night slipped by. By morning, a heavy tension pressed down over all of Silvertonthick with dread and anticipation.

Cain was coming.
