Chapter 298 The Next Target
The Black Sun? Evan asked, a hint of surprise in his voice.
“Yeah, it’s an overseas organization that combines martial artists, arcane practitioners, and genetic modification. They’ve got all kinds of unusual talents. They were likely the ones who placed the Death Writ on me.” Ivana explained just how terrifying the Black Sun was.
1 see..” Evan fell into thought, then suddenly smiled. “So I’ve already crossed paths with them before?
His words immediately drew everyone’s attention. The Cortex Team quickly recalled the last incident- when Evan had saved Ivana
Several men in black had tried to make a move on him after that, only to be effortlessly wiped out in seconds. Those men had most likely been from the Black Sun.
It’s possible they were also the ones who went after the Iron Dragon…” Evan added with a faint smile.
The team members nodded. That’s very likely. But someone must have hired them to target Ms. Stanton’s father. Before, we didn’t know who the enemy was-we were exposed while they stayed hidden, so it was hard to prepare.
Now that we know, things are much easier. Security around the Iron Dragon has already been strengthened. Dragon’s Breath and Sky Titan are both stationed in Silverton, so that side is under control
The team leader paused, his expression darkening. The real concern is Ms. Stanton. According to the intelligence we intercepted, the Black Sun is planning another move-this time directly against Ms. Stanton.”
The implication was obvious-they wanted Evan to stay and protect Ivana. But before anyone could say it outright, Ivana spoke first. I’ll be fine.”
The entire Cortex Team stared at her in disbelief. This was the perfect chance to secure Evan’s protection, and she turned it down.
“I have the Cortex Team protecting me, I’ll be okay. What I’m really worried about is Sylvie… She doesn’t have many people around her. I’m afraid they might target her instead.”
At the end of the day, she was still an aunt. When danger loomed, the first person on her mind was her
niece.
She looked up at Evan, “Kiddo, promise me that you’ll protect her.”
“I will.” Evan had no reason to refuse. Even without being asked, he would have protected Sylvie.
“And keep yourself safe too,” Ivania added softly.
Evan felt his chest tighten, a warm feeling spreading through him. “Don’t worry, Ivana. I know what I’m doing”
After their last failure, he knew the Black Sun would not hold back again. The next wave would be stronger. More dangerous. But his Ninefold Arcane Arts wasn’t for show
If anything, this was a good chance to test himself.
After Evan left, the Cortex Team members turned back, all of them looking at Ivana in confusion.
“Ms. Stanton… why did you refuse just now?” one of them asked. “You know better than anyone that we won’t be able to hold off the Black Sun’s true elites…”
At the end of the day, they were just a small group. How could they possibly stand against a long- established organization like Black Sun? So far, the enemy had only sent martial assassins, which they could handle. But if they sent unpredictable arcane masters next…
Ivana gave a bitter smile. “I didn’t want Kiddo to think the Queen of Finance was weak…. And honestly, I didn’t think that far ahead. Compared to myself, I’m really more worried about Sylvie…”
The room fell silent. One by one, the team members withdrew without another word.
“What? Evan, you’re going to stay close and protect me? That’s amazing!”
