Sorry Too Late (by J.J. Twelve) novel Chapter 39

Graham Golden?

Ivana wasn’t familiar with the name at all. Someone that low on the ladder simply didn’t qualify to be on her radar.

But Evan’s expression tightened subtly, and she caught it at once. You know him, kiddo?

Yeah.Evan nodded, expression flat. He’s the father of someone I used to know. But there’s nothing between us anymore.

He remembered Graham vividly mostly because among all the relatives and hangers or around Hazel, Roxanne, and Anya, Graham had been the one who’d looked down on him the most.

The man cared only about personal gain; everything he did had to benefit him first. When the Norwood family cast Evan out, Graham had treated him like a stray dog, worthless and disposable.

Yet for Anya’s sake, he had swallowed his pride and gone to beg Mr. Wellshis sworn enemy.

The price? Three vicious slaps across the face.

Graham had never forgotten those slaps. He had been waiting for a chance to return them. And he certainly hadn’t forgotten who he blamed for those slapsEvan.

But Mr. Wells ruled Silverton’s underground world. Graham had no way to strike back at him. So the only outlet left for his anger

had been Evan.

You know him, then,Ivana said lightly, a faint smile curving her lips. Since he means nothing to you now, there’s no reason

to see him.

Evan didn’t react.

After a brief pause, Ivana asked, almost casually, Should I use this chance to put him in his place for you?

If she lifted even a finger, the Golden family would crumbleit was as simple as that.

No. Don’t bother.Evan shook his head. He might have wanted revenge in the past, but not anymore. Their ties were severed; there was nothing worth clinging to.

All right. I’ll send him away. No need to let him interrupt our little private time.Ivana flashed him a sultry look and turned to

leave.

Good griefIvana’s something else. Private time, huh? Who could’ve imagined that the untouchable Queen of Financethe woman who dominated Draganland’s business worldwould be this bold in private?1

What? No one’s home?

Outside the door, Graham frowned, seeing that no one answered. But unwilling to give up, he raised his voice again. Ms. Stanton, I’m Graham from Silverton’s Golden family. I brought a premium drakeblood root to show my sincerity!

He made sure to announce the gift this timea premium drakeblood root. It was an extraordinary medicinal treasure. One could only imagine that if an immature one sold for hundreds of millions, a mature premium one would certainly be all but unobtainable.

Wait, Ivana!

Upon hearing that Graham had drakeblood root in his hands, Evan immediately stopped her.

Ivana was just as surprised. Drakeblood root? One of the key items on Evan’s list? Someone delivered it to the door before I had the chance to order a search? Talk about a lucky break!

Ivana, you should meet him,Evan said with a small smile. He did bring a gift, after all.

Ivana’s lips curved, and she tapped his forehead with a teasing fingertip. Fine. For the drakeblood root, I’ll make an exception.

She quickly changed into something more modest and went to open the door herself.

Naturally, Evan stayed inside.
