Kieran and Drake didn’t even qualify as real suitors, so they stayed out of it.

Once everyone had gone, Emma tucked the blanket around Lucien, straightened up, and looked at Calum. “Calum, thank you for covering for me in front of Aurelian’s doctor.”

Emma had already thought through the consequences when she chose to give Lucien a blood transfusion.

“Ms. Tibarn.” Calum stepped over and took her hand, looking her in the eye with total seriousness. “When you thank me, it kind of stings. I’m your suitor. It’s my job to protect you, care for you, and do anything for you.”

He didn’t need her gratitude.

He wanted her to really accept him, as she did with Lucien and Silas.

Her concern made Calum’s heart warm, and he shook his head with a smile.

“I’m fine. I actually feel great. Lucien’s blood actually made my ability stronger.” He looked at Emma and spoke slowly. “It was like rain after a long drought. Every cell in my body felt alive.”

As he spoke, Calum placed his other hand over Emma’s, enveloping her small hands.
