**When She Opened the Door to the Life She Was Afraid to Live by Nora Vale Kingsley**
**Chapter 482: An Even Exchange**
Emma found herself caught in a web of relationships that had yet to fully solidify. Despite the arrival of another cub on the horizon, her bonds with Malrik and Calum remained fragile, like delicate threads waiting to be woven into something stronger. Kieran, too, lingered in the shadows of her life, still a follower, still waiting for the day she would officially acknowledge him and invite him into her circle.
Then there was Corvin and Edric. Emma had made promises to Corvin countless times, vowing to visit him and even agreeing to journey to Ravaryn by his side. Yet, each time, she found herself hesitating, her resolve crumbling under the weight of her own fears. As for Edric, the memories of their shared moments felt like a distant echo; she couldn’t recall the last time they had truly spent quality time together, and that realization gnawed at her.
Marcus had been on edge lately, his mood teetering like a tightrope walker in a storm. She suspected it was linked to his mental power, a force that could easily overwhelm him. She felt a tug of concern for him, knowing she needed to reach out and provide the comfort he so desperately needed.
And then, of course, there was Drake, whose presence always seemed to add an unpredictable element to her life.
Suddenly, as if summoned by her thoughts, the door burst open with a loud bang, and Silas strode into the room, his energy filling the space like a gust of wind.
“Emy!” he called out, his voice a mixture of urgency and relief.
Emma’s heart skipped a beat as she looked up, surprise etched across her features. “Silas?”
His unexpected arrival sent a wave of relief washing over her, mingling with a surge of happiness that she could hardly contain. “I thought you said you wouldn’t be here until tonight,” she exclaimed, her voice barely above a whisper.
Silas crossed the room in long, purposeful strides, his presence a beacon of warmth and familiarity. Behind him, Edric, Corvin, Kieran, and Drake followed, each of them a testament to the bonds they shared, and Emma felt a swell of gratitude for their support.
Silas reached her bedside with a sense of urgency, taking her hand in his and studying her expression with a gentle intensity. “We heard you were pregnant again and that the morning sickness has been particularly rough on you. We were genuinely worried, so we rushed over as quickly as we could.”
Corvin and Edric stepped closer, their faces etched with concern. “Emma, are you feeling okay?” Corvin asked, his voice laced with genuine worry.
“Are you still nauseous?” Edric chimed in, his brow furrowed.
Their concern wrapped around her like a warm blanket, and she couldn’t help but smile softly at them. “Don’t worry, I’m feeling much better now,” she reassured them, her heart swelling with affection.
She gestured toward Alaric, who stood nearby. “Mr. Wynn helped this time. He transferred my morning sickness onto Lucien,” she explained, a hint of amusement dancing in her eyes.
Once Silas confirmed she was alright, the tension in his shoulders visibly dissipated. His gaze shifted to Alaric, taking in the man’s ethereal presence—draped in white robes, with silver-white hair that gleamed in the light, he seemed almost otherworldly, as if he had stepped out of a myth.
Silas offered Alaric a polite smile. “Mr. Wynn, it’s been a while. Thank you for helping Emy.”
“No worries,” Alaric replied, his smile warm and genuine. “As a doctor, it’s my duty. And if I can assist Emma in any way, I’m more than glad to do so.”
Emma’s mind raced with the implications of Alaric’s eagerness. Oh? So he has feelings for Emy. That must be why he’s so keen to help. Silas, however, chose to ignore the unspoken tension and swiftly redirected the conversation.
“Calum,” he said, turning to the other man, “I remember you obtained a rare holy medicine from the Chitinid during a major battle. Mr. Wynn’s younger sister was scarred by the Chitinid when she was little, and that medicine could potentially treat her injuries.”
