A voice suddenly drifted from the bathroom. Marcus spoke calmly, “Ms. Tibarn, he didn’t faint. I’m watching him, so don’t worry.”

Emma realized she hadn’t even noticed when Marcus had gone into the bathroom.

“I should check on him,” she murmured to herself.

Still uneasy about Lucien, she was about to rise from the bed when the bathroom door swung

open.

Marcus emerged, Lucien draped over his shoulder.

He carefully set Lucien down on the nearby couch.

Lucien lay there, utterly limp, his face ghostly pale.

He didn’t dare move a muscle.

Every small twitch made nausea rise in him.

“Lucien, are you all right?”

Emma hurried over, gently cradling his face, her heart twisting with concern.

He realized that pain only felt real when he could compare it to something worse.

Edric’s eyes narrowed as he studied Lucien’s strained expression.

Could giving birth really be this painful? Emma seemed perfectly fine when she was carrying Remy.

Kieran turned to Emma. “My lady, are you hungry? I can cook some food for you.”

At the mention of food, Lucien suddenly shot upright from the couch.

“Emma, sorry–I need the bathroom,” he said, his voice panicked.

Everyone froze, stunned.

Seriously? He can’t even hear the word “food” without reacting?

Kieran watched as Lucien dashed toward the bathroom, like a child who’d gotten into trouble.

“It’s fine. Not your fault,” Emma reassured him.

She shook her head. “But I am a little hungry. Go prepare food in another room. Lucien can’t handle the smell right now.”

“Understood,” Kieran nodded quickly.

Calum told him, “We’ve booked the entire floor. Pick any room.”

Calum wasn’t going to offer help; he was worried about ruining the hotel.

Feeling useless, Corvin stepped forward. “I’ll assist Kieran.”

“I’ll come too,” Drake finally said, glancing at Emma with a faint gloom in his voice.

As they left, Silas looked toward the bathroom and spoke to Emma.

“Emy, let Marshal Calum take you to another room to rest. With Lucien like this, you any real sleep here.”
