**When She Opened the Door to the Life She Was Afraid to Live by Nora Vale Kingsley**
**Chapter 503: Terms of Freedom**
Calum found himself cornered, the weight of responsibility pressing heavily on his shoulders. He had an entire workforce relying on him for their livelihoods, and that thought alone left no room for hesitation.
On the other side of the display, Damian’s voice was steady and unyielding as he laid out the terms of their negotiation. Calum remained silent, his fingers drumming a slow, methodical beat against the edge of the bed, a rhythm that matched the tension coiling within him.
“Sixty percent of the profits in exchange for your absolute freedom,” Damian declared at last, his tone almost casual, as if he were discussing the weather rather than the fate of their business.
Calum’s lips curled into a slight smile, a calculated response to the offer. “Fine. I’ll agree to your terms. But…”
His voice shifted, taking on a sharper edge as he lifted his chin, his gaze locking onto Damian with a fierce intensity. “You will ensure that Nexus Prime Tech’s yearly payout to me never drops below its current levels.”
The thought of Damian facing bankruptcy sent a shiver down Calum’s spine. All his hard work, all the sacrifices he had made, would amount to nothing if the company crumbled.
Damian’s smile widened, a glint of mischief dancing in his eyes. “Rest assured, Marshal. I wouldn’t dare enter into a deal with you if I intended to shortchange you.”
Calum knew all too well that a deal with Damian came with its own set of consequences. Disappointment was not an option; he needed to keep this partnership strong.
As Damian finally flicked off the lightcore, his assistant stared at him, a look of utter confusion etched on his face.
“Mr. Voss, you just agreed to give Marshal Calum that much profit. Why didn’t you seize the moment to ask him for help in returning to Ms. Emma Tibarn?”
The assistant’s voice was incredulous. “That’s sixty percent of the profits! After paying the staff, nearly everything goes straight to Marshal Calum. Are we seriously letting our star lord work for free? This has to be a joke!”
Damian waved a dismissive hand, his expression serious. “I’m cooperating with them. This has nothing to do with her. If I were to bring that up, how would I be any different from the old me?”
He knew that bringing Emma into the conversation would only complicate matters further. Calum and Lucien would certainly oppose such a notion.
If he voiced those thoughts aloud, the chance of ever getting close to Emma again would vanish into thin air.
With a flick of his wrist, Damian produced a proposal and tossed it casually to his assistant. “Get started. All those projects we’ve been putting on hold—we can finally push them forward without restraint.”

The assistant opened the file, his eyes lighting up with enthusiasm. “I’ll arrange everything immediately!”
Those projects had been languishing for far too long, dragging down the growth of Nexus Prime Tech. Once they were set in motion, that woman, Dahlia, wouldn’t stand a chance against them.
Meanwhile, right after Calum ended his call with Damian, a message from Lucien blinked onto his screen.
‘Marshal, Damian should have reached out to you by now. I’ll handle everything. I want forty percent of the cut.’
Calum scoffed at the audacity of it all.
This brat really has some nerve.
He stood up and stepped out of his room, expecting to find Lucien nearby.
However, as he emerged, he discovered Lucien comfortably situated in the living area, sharing a late-night snack with Silas, Corvin, and Alaric.
When Corvin caught sight of him, he immediately reached for an extra set of silverware. “Calum, you’re awake? Are you hungry? Come join us!”
