“I should’ve told you before coming,” Dahlia said softly, her fingers slipping naturally into Joseph’s hand. “I just showed up like this–did I interrupt your work?”
“It’s not like that at all,” Joseph clarified quickly, shaking his head. “I’m really happy you came. It didn’t affect my work in the slightest–truly.”
Lily had already been waiting for half an hour and was getting impatient.
Seeing Dahlia absorbed in being affectionate with her bonded mate, she couldn’t help but urge her on. “Dahlia, can you hurry up and ask your partner where Prince Lucien is?”
What if Lucien had left before she could even meet him?
This idiot–can’t she hold it in for just a moment? Dahlia cursed inwardly. It’s not like I am not goin
to ask.
Still, she sighed and turned to Joseph.
“Joseph, I came today for two reasons. First, to see you, and second, to bring Lily with me to thank Prince Lucien.
“You know, last time, when Lily and I were taken by the Chitinids, it was Prince Lucien who saved us. We haven’t properly thanked him yet.”
Joseph had already heard about this from Kael.
It was only right that Dahlia wanted to thank Prince Lucien.
“At this hour, Prince Lucien should be in his office,” Joseph said. “I’ll take
you
there.”
Under the openly envious gazes around them, he held Dahlia’s hand and led her toward Lucien’s office.
Once they left, the others couldn’t help whispering among themselves.
“So those two females are here to see Prince Lucien.”
“Prince Lucien really has it all–high status, already being someone’s mate, and now other females are coming just to thank him.”

They were different; they had no status, no mate and barely stood a chance to see a female on a normal day.
They had barely finished speaking when a sudden stir broke out near the entrance.
“Look, another female just arrived.”
“What is going on with the military today? Three females in one day?”
“Wow, she’s beautiful too. I really like her aura.”
“Whose huntress is this?”
“I want to go meet her–think I have a chance?”
“Do you think I could be her mate?”
Suddenly, someone swore under his breath, “Holy hell–Commander Hamblin.”
“That female? That’s Commander Hamblin’s huntress.”
It was over. Completely over.
In the military, everyone knew there was one person they absolutely could not offend- Commander Hamblin.
Offending Marshal Calum might still leave them with a corpse to bury. However, if a person were to offend Commander Hamblin, they might be wiped off the face of the earth.
The moment they saw Silas approach, everyone lowered their heads and pretended to be busy.
Silas walked in with Emma at his side. He swept a glance over the therian soldiers putting on their act and then said gently to her,
“I’ll take you straight to Lucien’s office. I won’t be around this afternoon, so Marcus, Malrik, and Lucien will stay with you.”
“Alright,” Emma answered with a smile, then asked casually, “Calum’s here too, right?”
“Yes, he is,” Silas replied. “But he has a lot of meetings today–he probably won’t have time to keep you company.”
“That’s fine,” she responded easily. “Marcus and Malrik with me is enough.”
She was only here to help Lucien deal with the problem anyway. She hadn’t come expecting company.

Once Silas led Emma out of the main hall toward the senior officers‘ building, everyone! inside let out a collective breath.
“Was that really Commander Hamblin just now? He sounded way too gentle, as if he had been possessed.”
“You’re only paying attention to Commander Hamblin? Didn’t you notice how gentle his huntress sounded too?”
“I really like Commander Hamblin’s huntress.”
If only I could bond with her…
Her aura was incredible–soft, inviting, the kind that made you want to draw closer without even realizing it.
Meanwhile, Lily followed Dahlia and her mate, Joseph, to the door of Lucien’s office.
Joseph raised his hand and knocked respectfully
Lucien outranked him, so his attitude had to be proper.
“Come in.” Lucien’s voice came from inside.
The instant Lily heard it, her heart started racing, a faint blush rising to her cheeks. Is it just me?Why does his voice sound even better than before?
She watched as Joseph opened the door.
Immediately, she craned her neck to look inside. The office was spacious–so large that Lucien himself wasn’t visible from the doorway.
There were only clean lines, restrained decor, and an unmistakable sense of authority.
It was simple and refined–perfectly in line with his personality.
Suppressing her excitement, Lily followed Dahlia and Joseph inside.
Lucien sat behind a broad desk, dressed in a crisp military uniform. The starlike insignia on his shoulders gleamed, sharpening the already cold, commanding lines of his face.
