“Ms. Emma Tibarn, may I ask what you need with Mr. Smith? His door is slightly open. I can let him know you’re here right away? Sebastian said.
The moment he mentioned that Drake’s door was open, Emma replied without hesitation, “That’s alright. I’ll go see him myself.”
She didn’t wait for another word. She turned and headed straight for Drake’s room.
Alaric glanced at Sebastian, the dignified Grand Elder from Drakonid, and shook his head with a faint, amused smile. “Even a Grand Elder like him has been run completely ragged over that dragon Drake.”
Kieran shot Alaric a look.
This guy is still just as annoying as ever.
Emma stopped outside Drake’s door. This time, she didn’t even bother knocking. She pushed it open and walked in.
The lights were off. The room sat in heavy shadows.
She remembered that dragons loved gems and anything that sparkled. Every time she had gone to Drake’s room before, even at night, his room had always been brilliantly lit.
So the dimness did not slow her down. She could see everything clearly.
Drake lay on the bed, looking nothing like he had earlier that day. His hair had turned stark white, far more than before, and his face was so pale it was almost frightening.
She stared at him, anger and heartache knotting tight in her chest.
He’s already in this state, and he still refuses to tell me the truth. What is he thinking?
Emma ground her teeth as she walked over to the bedside. She was just about to activate the lightcore and call Alaric over to examine Drake first.
The moment Drake sensed someone near him, his eyes snapped open. He had assumed it was Sebastian. When he saw Emma nstead, he froze. For a split second, he genuinely thought he was still half asleep and dreaming.
‘Emma?” His voice came out weak, stripped of the steady strength he had carried earlier that day.
‘It’s me,” Emma said. Then she leaned over, checking on him.
Doesn’t look like he’s going to die anytime soon–no need to rush Alaric over.
