When Lucien came back and heard the twins had vanished yet again, the muscle between his brows twitched.

They had only just quieted down, and now they had already found another way to stir up trouble.

Lucien looked at Drake. “Did you figure out where they went this time? Anything at all?”

Drake shook his head. “That space–jumping ability doesn’t show up on surveillance. There’s nothing to trace.”

Lucien rubbed his forehead. He was out of ideas too.

“Forget it. Leave them be for now.”

If they truly wandered off somewhere, then they would deal with it later.

Outside the castle.

Gaellard was still talking Andre’s ear off.

“Why did those two tiny brats just disappear like that? They sat on my head for ages and didn’t even leave a thank–you behind.”

Andre had already listened to him babble for half an hour.

At last, he opened his eyes and glanced over. “Maybe because they can’t talk yet.”

Gaellard shot him an annoyed look. “Do you even know how conversation works? Obviously I know they can’t talk. I’m making conversation. You know–finding a topic?”

Andre said flatly, “You’re insane.”

The second the words left his mouth, something suddenly dropped onto his head.

Gaellard saw the tiny black thing appear on Andre’s hair again and burst out laughing.

Then he immediately reached up to touch his own head and frowned. “Where’s the other one?”

Why did only one come back?

Andre ignored him and lifted a hand to catch the little creature perched on him, but before his fingers reached it, it vanished on the spot again.

Andre and Gaellard were becoming increasingly speechless.

Inside the castle in a bathroom…

Corvin was standing under the shower. His hair was wet, and he had just reached for the shampoo when his fingers brushed something soft.

“What the hell?”

He looked up and found a tiny pitch–black creature sitting among the toiletries. He nearly jumped out of his skin. Since when did something that black appear in his bathroom?

Squinting, he snatched up his glasses and shoved them on.

Only then did he see clearly what that extra “thing” was.

“A baby?”

Corvin’s eyes widened. He grabbed the nearest towel, wrapped it around himself, and stared in disbelief.

“Why are you in my bathroom?”

As he spoke, he gave up on finishing his shower entirely.

After knotting the towel firmly around his waist, he scooped the little black cub off the sink and ran straight for Lucien’s room.

“Lucien, one of the babies ended up in my room”

He couldn’t even tell whether it was the older twin or the younger one. Barely covered by a towel, he rushed inside with the baby in his arms.

Lucien was seated on the couch reading. Seeing Corvin burst in dressed like that, he pointed at the empty crib with a blank face.

“Put it in the crib.”

By now, Lucien had gone from panicked every time the babies vanished to completely numb.

Lucien had honestly stopped knowing what to do.

Corvin stared at how calm Lucien looked, set the baby into the crib, and looked at him with real admiration.

“Lucien, your baby keeps escaping and you’re still this calm. Amazing. Seriously.”

Lucien looked at him. “And what would panicking solve?”

He closed his book and added, “Even if I wanted to go looking, where would I start?”

Corvin stared at the two cubs in the crib–one already in human form, the other still a little beast–and came up with a terrible idea.

“Lucien, what if we tie them up? Or put them on leashes? If their legs are tied, they won’t be able to run off, right?”

Lucien glanced at him and pointed beneath the crib. “Tried it already. Every kind of rope. None of it worked.”

He had thought of that from the beginning.

He had even asked Silas.

And this time, even Silas had no better answer.

Corvin looked at the pile of ropes under the crib and the corner of his mouth twitched. “Alright. Pretend I didn’t say anything. I’m going back.”

His hair was still dripping with water. He had not even finished half his shower.

Corvin left Lucien’s room and hurried back.

The instant the door shut behind him, Lucien noticed that the baby Corvin had just returned had disappeared again.

Lucien did not even blink.

Meanwhile, Corvin went back to his room and headed straight into the bathroom again.
