“I’ll go up by myself” Lucien tucked the two cubs securely against his chest and headed up the mountain at a brisk pace.

On the way here, Jim had told him the Beast God lived at the summit.

He tightened his hold on the little ones, took a steady breath, and stepped onto the staircase carved entirely out of crystal, leading all the way to the peak of Beast God Mountain.

The moment his foot touched the first step, a powerful, completely unreasonable force came crashing down from above.

It felt more like a giant vacuum. One hard pull, and he, along with the cubs, was yanked straight upward.

Lucien felt like he had been tossed into a spinning washing machine. The scenery blurred and rushed past him while the wind roared in his ears.

By the time he managed to steady himself again, he realized he was standing in front of a crystal palace wrapped in drifting mist.

On the steps sat a child who looked no older than six or seven.

Lucien stared at him, stunned. “You’re the Beast God?”

“Mm.” The child nodded and walked over. He reached out and poked the two cubs in Lucien’s arms. “Human blood, huh. No wonder their talent’s this high.”

“Help you?” The Beast God broke into a bright, almost playful smile. “Of course I can. Just leave your two cubs here at Beast God Mountain. I guarantee they won’t be going anywhere.”

“Leave them at Beast God Mountain?” Lucien shook his head without hesitation. “Beast God, they’re still so young. I leave them here now, I’m afraid they’ll only cause you trouble.”

Lucien held his ground under the pressure. He let out a quiet, helpless sigh, then adjusted the cub in his arms, the little one still fast asleep and blowing tiny bubbles. “Beast God, that’s not the issue here.”

He looked at Beast God sincerely. “Just look at them. They’re this small, and I’m supposed to leave them here at Beast God Mountain? If I go back like that, I won’t be able to face Ms. Tibarn.”

At the mention of Emma, the Beast God went quiet for a beat. “She won’t agree to it?”
