Vickie did not want to make things difficult for him. After all, she knew that it was not easy for Jonathan to make it this far.
In any case, she had already torn down the barrier between the two of them. As for how things between them would develop from now on, it would depend on themselves.
Thus, she did not force him and nodded. “Alright, you can go.”
Jonathan turned and walked away. After he left, Vickie stepped forward again and took a serious look at Andrea.
She scrutinized her from top to bottom and from front to back, feeling very satisfied. Nodding her head, she said, “Yeah, it really looks good.”
Then, with a generous wave of her hand, she told the shop assistant, “We’ll get this one. Ring it up.”
Andrea quickly pulled on Vickie. “Sister Vickie.”
Vickie paused and looked at her. “What’s wrong?”
“I…” Andrea looked at her, waiting to say something yet unable to say it. Her clear eyes seemed to contain many complicated emotions at the moment.
Vickie’s elegant eyebrows also furrowed slightly. She realized that Andrea really did have something on her mind today. It was not just her imagination. She turned to look at the girl and asked softly, “What happened?”
Andrea bit her lip as a conflicted light flashed in her eyes, but she shook her head after a moment. She forced a smile. “I just feel that I really can’t accept you buying such an expensive dress for me. After all, I’m just a maid…”
“Shush!”
She was interrupted by Vickie before she could finish speaking.
Vickie looked at her and sighed again. “What about your identity? Do servants deserve to be born inferior and not deserve to wear good clothes? Andrea, no one is born low. Everyone’s life should be their own decision. Even if you’re just a maid now, you may not be one in the future. Even if you are, so what?
“Anyone who earns their living with their own hands shouldn’t be looked down upon. I’m giving you this dress because I like you and appreciate how well you take care of me. It doesn’t mean anything. There’s nothing to feel embarrassed or guilty about. You just have to be yourself, understand?”
Andrea looked at her quietly, and for some reason, Vickie felt as if those bright eyes were filled with sadness at the moment.
She bit her lip hard and nodded heavily. “I understand.”
Vickie pressed down the uneasiness in her heart and rubbed Andrea’s head while advising softly, “Don’t think too much about it. If my good intentions caused you to be uncomfortable instead, then it’s my fault.”
She only thought that Andrea’s pride might have been hurt since she was giving her such an expensive gift, so she comforted her and did not think about anything else.
Andrea nodded.
Vickie then asked the shop assistant for the bill again and told her to wrap Andrea’s old clothes up.
Andrea wore the new dress out. The saying that clothes make the man was not untrue.
Although Vickie and Andrea were extremely close when they walked together earlier, anyone with a discerning eye could see the difference between the two at a glance. Walking together now, however, after Andrea changed her outfit, no one would doubt them if they were to say that they were sisters.
Next, Vickie pulled Andrea along with her and went shopping in several more stores.
In the end, she bought herself a pair of shoes. Her mind suddenly flashed with a thought when she passed by a men’s clothing store and saw a suit hanging in the window.
The Yuliana in her memories was proud, capricious, bold, and shrewd. She was someone who wore her emotions on her sleeve. However, what about this woman in front of her now?
In an elegant dress with exquisitely painted eyebrows and eyes hinting at the style of a mature woman, she was already a proper upper-class woman who hid everything in her heart.
Vickie reminisced and smiled. “In that case, I won’t bother the two of you any longer.”
Then, she handed the clothes to the salesclerk and paid the bill.
She was not familiar with Shimon Flinders, and her relationship with Yuliana Lynch was even more awkward, so there was nothing much to talk about.
Observing this, Shimon naturally did not hold her back to chat. He turned and lowered his head to say something to Yuliana, and the two went on their way.
Before leaving, Yuliana turned to stare at her coldly.
Vickie felt it but did not respond. In any case, the relationship between Yuliana and her was more like enemies than friends. All her choices had been voluntary, so she was in no position to say anything else.
After the four of them parted, Vickie paid the bill and walked out with the clothes.
It was only after a long time did she notice that Andrea’s complexion seemed a little off. Vickie frowned and asked in concern, “What’s wrong? Why are you so pale?”
Andrea looked at her and forced a smile. “I’m fine.”
Instead of putting Vickie’s mind at ease, her words also caused the latter’s brows to furrow even deeper.
