It was at that time when he had a trip to China and passed by a small village. He heard that there was a master in the small village who loved to collect relics, and although the master was in his nineties, he was still physically strong. During his youth, he went around the world to collect antiques. Then when he was old, he did not want to stay in the city because the air was terrible, so along with his granddaughter, he moved to the countryside.
Since James Mark had done some research on antiques, he could be regarded as an antiquer. Therefore, he went to visit the master as he wanted to check on a few of the antiques he was interested in.
The master did not turn him away. Instead, he treated him with a warm welcome, taking out all the good things he had and let him enjoy it.
The old man was a reputed man on the street, so he was not worried that James would steal his things after having looked at it. Only when James was done did he keep all his things back.
Then, he smiled and offered James a meal before he sent James off.
It was then that James Mark saw the Arcane Jade.
According to what he said, the Arcane Jade was placed at an obscure place. It could be said that it was casually thrown on an old table, mixed together with other cheap scrappy things.
All those things looked as if they were just dug out from the soil, and still had the earthy smell of dirt on them. The same for the Arcane Jade.
Not sure if the old man was clumsy, not realizing the value of the Arcane Jade, or if he was not interested in those kinds of things. It was left there just like that, with the mud still uncleaned.
James saw it when he was about to leave and although he wanted to take a closer look at it, his plane was about to take off, so he did not stay any longer.
Moreover, the old man had no intentions of keeping him there anymore, so he had to leave without crossing the line.
Because of that, he only took a quick glance at it. Hence, he could not be 100% sure that the thing was the Arcane Jade.
Now, he decided to give it a shot and hand this clue to Gregory.
Gregory kept quiet for a few seconds after hearing him out.
He looked at James and asked, “The old man you mentioned just now, what is his name?”
James replied, “His surname is Brooks, I’m not sure about his full name. I only know he has a nickname called Old Hound Brooks, the elderly or people who are unfamiliar with him called him that. Even the young ones who respected him would just call him Uncle Brooks.”
Gregory nodded.
“I understand. I appreciate your information. I will contact you after I verify this, but if you have any requests, you can bring it up to me directly.”
James quickly stood up and expressed his gratitude.
“Thank you, Mr. Graham. Let’s not talk about the request. It'll be my greatest honor if I can lend a helping hand.”
Gregory’s lips curled up, but he did not bother about his compliment.
After he had ordered Mr. Osborne to send James out, he went to discuss with Vickie.
“From what he is saying, what is true and what is fake? What do you think?”
Vickie was silent for a moment, then she said, “I don’t think he will lie to us, he looks like a sincere person. I heard that his behavior has been good recently. Besides, he dare not lie to you, as for whether the clue is true or false.”
She paused before she burst into laughter. “Who knows? We will know it once we go to that place and have a look at that thing.”
Gregory nodded. “Then we’ll leave for China tomorrow.”
Stunned, Vickie asked in surprise, “So fast?”
Soon, she got the news and came back.
Based on Nancy’s research, this Uncle Brooks was a well-known antiquer during his youth.
After traveling around the world for decades, he had collected many good relics. However, it was unsure if his bad fortune was caused by this antique collection hobby of his, or if there were some other reasons.
Two of his sons and daughters-in-law were dead, one after another, due to inexplicable reasons.
His wife had passed away long ago, and his son left behind a child when he died. So he brought that child with him and raised him up until the child was married later on and had a daughter.
He thought that their family could have a peaceful life. However, as if some sort of a curse was placed on them, the pair of husband and wife eventually died in a car accident.
After they passed away, they left behind a girl named Flora. Uncle Brooks could not bear to see the child stranded outside and he wanted to bring her with him, but he was afraid it would place a curse on her which meant she would die like her grandparents and parents. Therefore, he changed her name to a sh*ttier one, called Doggy.
In the countryside, everybody would laugh at a boy called Doggy, but they would not be bothered by it later on.
However, it was different for a girl.
Flora had never acknowledged that name and as if changing her name was not enough for Uncle Brookes, he even had a friend in the countryside foster her. He would visit her once in a while, but most of the time, he would wander around.
He waited until Flora had grown up peacefully and turned eighteen years old. Feeling homesick, he returned to the countryside but because Uncle Brooks’ life was getting more inconvenient due to his old age, he brought back his great-granddaughter again to take care of him.
He did not know it was a fated curse or something else, but not long after his great-granddaughter came back to his side, she suddenly vanished.
Yes. Not dead, but vanished.
