Nell smiled and said, "Welcome to the capital!"
She opened her arms and hugged Vickie.
Vickie was quite delighted too. Partly it was because they got a lead so soon and another, it was because meeting Nell was already a joyous occasion.
Gideon was still at the office so he could not welcome them personally, but he had called ahead of time.
The two of them expressed their understanding and waited for him to return from work before discussing important matters together.
When they entered the house, Aunt Joyce had already prepared a delicious meal for them.
She had heard about Gregory and Vickie. After all, the last time Nell came back from Lin City, she brought a lot of local specialties with her, and Aunt Joyce was impressed by those things.
Seeing them for the first time, she felt that the man was handsome and the woman was pretty. They also had a noble aura and were just as beautiful a couple as Mr. and Mrs. Leith.
With that, they went to the dining room for lunch. Since Little Viemond and Lizzy were still at school, it was a good chance for them to have a quiet meal.
After the meal, Nell took them out and about in the capital but Gregory was not a stranger to the country because of his family.
Vickie, on the other hand, was full of curiosity as this was her first visit to China.
The three of them went around, and before long, the car stopped at the lobby of the Graham Tower.
Smiling, Nell said, "So? Would you like to invite us up to your home?"
Although Gregory had taken over most of the Graham family’s business, he did not go to the Graham Tower very often.
That was because he still harbored a sense of hatred towards the Graham family for their treatment of his mother back then.
Even though Harrison Graham had been trying to please him in recent years, that kind of hatred would not go away in a day or two.
Therefore, when he heard Nell’s words, all he did was glance at her before he said, "If you want to go, go by yourself. Aren't you familiar with this place?"
Seeing that he was a little indignant, Nell laughed lightly.
"Tsk, I'm not as familiar with it as you are. It’s fine if you don't want to go. I don't mind, but I just thought that since Vickie’s already here, and she's the future lady boss of the place after all, so isn't it normal for her to inspect her territory?”
Gregory only thought of this when Nell mentioned it.
He quickly turned to look at Vickie.
How could Vickie not know what was in Gregory’s heart? He had a grudge against the Graham’s, so she did not want to push him too much.
Vickie smiled gently. "Let's come another day. We still have a lot of places to go, so let’s not waste time."
Nell looked at the agreeable couple, then helplessly shook her head and sighed.
"You guys… acting all lovey-dovey and treating me like I’m non-existent. Tsk tsk..."
Vickie pursed her lips and smiled.
The trio strolled around for half a day until it was 6:00 pm when the car came to a stop at the lobby of the Leith Corporation.
Nell gave Gideon a call to see if he was done with work. If he was, then he could come home with them.
Without delay, Gideon came down within a few minutes after receiving the call.
When he got into the car, the group did not rush back to the villa. Instead, they booked a place in the Taoran House nearby for dinner.
After they were seated, Nell ordered the food and while they waited for the food to be served, they chatted about the purpose of Gregory and Vickie’s visit to China.
Later, when the economy started to develop in the big cities, young people left the countryside in droves, so fewer people were left in the village. It became more and more desolate as only those who had no way out were willing to stay in their hometowns, relying on tourism and some hand-made products to survive.
It was still early in the morning when the four arrived at Mille Family Village, and with the guidance of the locals, they arrived at the villa where Grandpa Brooks lived.
As the only villa in the village, the Brooks family home was not hard to find.
It was a large fully-bricked building with white walls. The door was locked and there was no one else around. There was a mountain behind the house and the yard was not maintained, so the trees and plants were mostly wilted. It looked very eerie from where the group was standing from outside the gate.
Gregory went forward and knocked on the door.
"Is anyone there?"
No one inside responded.
He tried again several times, but it was as if no one was inside. Not even a single sound could be heard, let alone a response.
Gregory turned to the local guide he had temporarily hired and asked, "Are you sure Grandpa Brooks is home?"
The guide was a simple, middle-aged man. He scratched his head in confusion. "He should be here. He’s old and his eyesight isn’t so good, so he doesn’t go out much and should be at home at this time of day."
As he said this, the local guide knocked on the door himself with determination and shouted in the local dialect.
After a while, there was finally an answer from inside.
It was an old, hoarse, but energetic voice.
"Stop knocking! What the hell are you knocking for?!"
As the words came out, the door was opened from the inside.
