Time passed, and before long, Kael’s bike pulled up in front of the Sword Saint’s ancient mansion.
Just like the last time he had visited, the massive iron gate automatically opened as he approached. Kael rode through without slowing down, following the long driveway until the towering mansion came into view. He eventually brought the bike to a stop near the entrance and stepped off.
Unlike his previous visit, however, there was no Zoey waiting for him.
There was no sneak attack either.
Still, Kael wasn’t alone.
His senses picked up a faint presence hidden within the shadows near the entrance of the mansion. The presence was extremely well concealed, but Kael could still detect it.
A moment later, the shadows stirred.
Albert stepped out from within them, dressed in a dark robe.
He looked at Kael for a moment before letting out a quiet sigh.
"You and that sharp sense of yours. I was hiding even deeper than last time, yet you still detected me."
Kael shrugged.
"I was just lucky."
Albert stared at him.
"As if."
He clearly didn’t believe him.
After a brief pause, Albert’s expression became more serious.
"This way. The Sword Saint is waiting for you inside."
"Sure. Lead the way."
Kael followed behind him as Albert entered the mansion.
The two walked through the familiar halls before eventually stopping in front of a towering reinforced metal door. Albert stood there for a moment without saying anything, seemingly giving the person on the other side time to know they had arrived.
Then he reached out and pushed the door open.
The heavy metal door released a deep groan as it slowly swung inward, revealing the spacious training chamber beyond.
At the center of the room sat the Sword Saint.
The old man was positioned in a lotus formation, his eyes closed and his breathing so calm that he almost seemed like a statue.
Kael stepped inside.
Albert remained by the entrance and closed the heavy door behind him.
The sound of the door locking into place echoed through the chamber, leaving Kael alone with the Sword Saint.
For several seconds, nothing happened. The Sword Saint remained completely still, and Kael didn’t speak either, choosing not to disturb whatever the Sword Saint was doing. He simply waited.
But just then, the old man’s eyes suddenly opened, and Kael’s danger sense flared at once.
His body reacted before his mind could even fully process what was happening.
He moved.
A brilliant streak of sword light pierced through the space where his body had been standing only a fraction of a second earlier.
The attack missed him by inches and slammed into the wall behind him.
Boom!
Golden runes instantly flared across the reinforced wall, forming intricate patterns that spread outward from the point of impact.
Kael’s eyes narrowed.
He recognized the runes.
