"It's already done," Edmond Halley said. "The contract was signed this morning."
"That fast?"
Of course, he had wanted to use this opportunity to quickly bind Sheila Jensen to him.
After all, she was the one who had initiated this mess.
As long as he was involved, she wouldn't be able to easily wash her hands of it.
Sheila was drowning in regret, but Edmond was incredibly grateful that this had happened.
If not for this little interlude, he wouldn't have found a single excuse to get close to her, let alone impose conditions.
What thrilled him even more was finding out that Simon Sinclair wasn't her boyfriend at all.
As for Cecil Rhodes...
She would eventually see that man's true colors.
When that time came, she would make the right choice.
Edmond gave a faint smile. "You know as well as I do, every day we delay, the chances of your Mr. Ladd going bankrupt increase."
"Can you even make money doing business with him?" she asked.
"Make money?" he replied. "I consider this charity work."
"Then why bother..."
He looked at her. "Why do you think?"
She furrowed her brow. "Can I ask you something?"
"Go ahead."
"You snatched Cecil's project and lost a lot of money in the process. What exactly were you after?"
"What was I after?" His fingers casually traced the edge of his teacup, his voice laced with a reckless edge. "Just for the fun of it."
His long, pale, and elegant fingers rested against the porcelain cup—an absolute feast for anyone with a hand fetish.
Sheila forced herself to look away.
She had never considered herself someone obsessed with hands before.
A romance so beautiful, yet one that consumed her entire being, only to end in tragedy.
Looking at his hand now, bringing up all those memories from the past...
Sheila lowered her eyes and took a sip of her iced tea.
Edmond frowned. He reached over, took her cup, and poured her a fresh one.
When she looked up again, her gaze was clear and indifferent. "Tell me. What is your condition?"
"Weren't we just talking about Cecil?"
"Let's drop him," she said. "I don't understand the games you rich people play."
"Who's playing games with him?" Edmond replied. "I'm telling you to stay away from him, and I'm not just trying to scare you. Do you have any idea what he did to the Rhodes family?"
"I don't want to know."
"Subconsciously, you know he hasn't been doing anything good, don't you? That's why you don't want to know," he pressed. "He was born out of wedlock. To reach the position he's in today, do you really think the Rhodes family just suddenly became kindhearted and forgiving?"
Even without Edmond saying it, Sheila could imagine that Cecil must have had a very difficult time when he first returned to his family.
