Nightshade drew a sharp breath and forced himself back into his seat, his fingers drumming a restless rhythm on the armrest. “This woman has been a thorn in our side from the start, and now she suddenly wants to sell the card? You think this is on the level?”
“How’s that guy, InvincibleWarrior, doing with stirring the pot in the channel?” Nightshade asked.
“Goir g smooth as butter!” the bald man replied hastily, eager to score points. “Most folks are scared stiff and are already handing over their supplies. That SpicyBurger might be tough, sure, but she’s just one person. She’s probably reading the room and wants to cash in on some high–value gear before making a run for it–or buying her way out of trouble.
“After all… players with a brain know when to fold.”
Nightshade let out a cold, humorless laugh. “Know when to fold? Looks to me like pure greed.”
“Five blue–tier schematics… why doesn’t she just go rob a bank?”
Even as he muttered the curse, Nightshade felt a pang in his chest.
Did he have five blue schematics?
Yeah, he did.

As a guild leader who had shaken down hundreds, he’d amassed plenty of quality loot. Besides what he used personally, he had exactly six blue schematics stashed away–his reserve fund for building an elite squad, his so- called “honor guard“.
“Boss, what if we… move first?” The bald man drew a finger across his throat. “InvincibleWarrior’s already heating things up. Let’s round up the crew and roll over her camp tonight! Take her out, and the card is ours.”
“Moron!”
Nightshade shot him a withering look. “Roll over her with what? How many rage potions do we have left? She’s no amateur, and we’re already stretched too thin. Last time, she wiped out our entire elite team! If we go in guns blazing and fail, and she destroys the card or vanishes, are you going to cover that loss?!”
This was the critical window before the server merge.
Timing was everything.
If he could secure the card through a clean trade and establish the guild immediately, Nightfall’s power would skyrocket. He could always deal with the woman later.
“Fine”

Nightshade ground out the word through clenched teeth. “We’ll trade. Trick her into handing over the card first.”
“I’ll handle it!” the bald man volunteered. “Boss, just give me the schematics. I’ll make the exchange with her. I’ll talk her down, I promise.”
The room fell suddenly quiet.
Nightshade turned his head, the eyes behind his mask fixed intently on the bald man.
The gaze was icy, laced with paranoia.
“Give them to you?”
t
Nightshade’s voice was soft, but it carried a chill that prickled the skin. “Five blue schematics… that’s half the guild’s entire reserve. You really think I’d trust you to walk off with that?”
In this lawless world, what if the bald man took the schematics and ran? What if he kept the Guild Card for himself and started his own crew?
Betrayal came cheap.
Under that stare, the bald man broke into a cold sweat and dropped to his knees with a heavy thud. “Boss! I’m loyal to you! I’d never cross you!”
“Enough.”
Nightshade waved him off impatiently. “A deal this size, handle it myself.”
He trusted only himself.
That was his rule for survival.
“Get out. Keep an eye on the channel. Once the trade is done, have everyone on standby… I want that woman to know that if you take something from me, you pay for it in blood.”
“Yes, yes, of course!” The bald man scrambled out of the hall on unsteady legs.
Only Nightshade remained in the large, empty space.
He pulled up the private message screen and typed the ID that never failed to spike his blood pressure.
“Nightshade: You there?”
Inside the warm wooden cabin, Riley was stroking Neeko’s head while keeping her eyes glued to her silent message log.
“Pretty patient,” she murmured to herself.

If the guy didn’t bite, her whole plan would fall apart. She didn’t actually have a Guild Card. This was all a bluff, a psychological play.
Just as she was about to send another message to prod him-
“Ding ding.”
A new private message window popped up.
