Chapter 144 Taking Down the Bear

Chapter 144 Taking Down the Bear

After sending that, BigMountain tossed in a couple more pics.

Riley slowed her pace a little as she skimmed through the messages.

DawnLight?

Never heard of ’em. But how’d they all get teleported together?

“Crystal Armor Earth Bear…”

Riley scrolled through her mental bestiary.

The entries weren’t complete.

“Crystal Armor Earth Bear: Earth-element elite beast. Covered in crystalline plating, extremely high defense. Warning: Unknown. Abilities: Unknown. Weakness: Pale spot on underside. Drops: Beast Core (crafts purple-tier gear), Sealing Orb, Silver Cache.”

This thing was no joke.

Under normal circumstances, Riley-a solo player through and through-would’ve steered clear. You never really knew what people were actually after.

But right now…

She pulled up her map.

The coordinates were about five hundred yards ahead, right at a harrow pass that was the only route up the mountain.

And…

“The loot’s not bad, either…

“Might as well check it out.”

Decision made. She didn’t reply in the channel just yet. Instead, she moved quietly toward the coordinates. Whether she’d join the fight or not depended on what things looked like when she got there.

r

Five hundred yards ahead.

The Rocky Forests.

A few trees had been snapped clean in half. The ground was torn up, littered with broken rock and shallow craters.

“ROOOAR-!!!”

A deafening roar shook the area.

In the center of the mess, a massive bear rose onto its hind legs.

tts fur was coal black, but its chest and back were armored in thick, semi-transparent amber crystal. Each time it slammed a paw down, the earth trembled underfoot.

Around it, three battered figures were trying to keep it contained, but nothing they did seemed to crack its defense.

Holding the front line was a big guy with a tower shield-BigMountain.

He stood his ground right in the bear’s face, bracing to take every heavy swipe with his body.

“Dravor! Aim for the eyes! Forget the armor!”

Behind him, a young man named Dravor struggled to draw his longbow, sweat dripping down his tempte. His arrows just sparked harmlessly off the crystalline plating.

Off to one side was a girl in a light-colored robe.

“BigMountain, watch it-it’s gonna stomp again!” Snow called out.

Right on cue, the Earth Bear lifted its right forepaw high, the crystals along its limb glowing brightly, then slammed it into the ground.

“Skill: Seismic Stomp!”

“BOOM-”

A fan-shaped shockwave ripped across the terrain.

BigMountain stepped back, gritted his teeth, drove his shield into the dirt, and roared through the impact.

Riley lay low behind a large boulder a few dozen yards back, watching it all calmly.

No ambush in sight.

No other stalkers lurking around.

These three were genuinely on their last leg. They’d burned through who-knew-how-many supplies and clearly didn’t want to walk away empty-handed.

“Not bad coordination… but their damage output’s way too low. Can’t break through,” Riley noted.

They seemed decent enough, though. The tank was really putting himself on the line to cover his team.

Since it looked clean, she might as well step in.

r

Riley stood up, made no attempt to hide, and walked straight out from behind the rock. She raised her armor-piercing crossbow.

Aimed.

Led the target.

“Thwip-hiss!”

A blue streak cut through the air, cold as winter, and struck right into the narrow gap in the crystal armor at the Earth Bear’s right knee joint.

Thud

The arrow hit with brutalforce.

“Critical! -48!

“Effect Triggered: Pierce!”

The Earth Bear’s motion faltered. That heavy stomp, thrown off balance, went wide-smashing into the ground just beside BigMountain’s shield instead.

“BOOM!”

Rocks and dust exploded. The shockwave knocked BigMountain sideways.

“Who’s there?!”

All three of them startled, quickly looking toward the source of the shot.

Up on a rocky outcrop stood a girl in rugged outdoor gear, two hatchets hanging at her belt and a crossbow held steady in her hands, looking down at them with calm, cool eyes.

Riley didn’t climb down right away. She kept a cautious distance, watching them from the higher ground.

“Was passing through and saw your post,” she said, her tone casual. “Still need a hand?”

BigMountain stared for a second, then broke into a huge, relieved grin.

That one shot had dealt more damage than the three of them combined! And her gear… looked like mostly blue tier, maybe better?

This was definitely a pro.

“Yes! Seriously, yes!”

BigMountain ignored the ache in his ribs, pushed himself up from the ground, and called out.

“Hey! Thanks for stepping in! We know how this works-you get first pick of the drops! Just help us take this thing down!”

Then he quickly added, voice urgent and sincere, “But be careful, okay? Don’t go for its back!

r

“This bear’s got a passive called ‘Crystal Reflect’! When the crystals on its back glow red, any physical hit bounces fifty percent of the damage right back!

“Dravor found out the hard way earlier-almost took himself out with his own arrow.”
