Chapter 288 The Divine Mirror

Chapter 288 The Divine Mirror

“I spotted a bunch of strange words carved into the floor over there too. I couldn’t understand any of it.”

TartKing gestured and led Riley and PineappleBeer toward the spot.

Sure enough, countless unknown characters were carved into the stone floor near the water pool. It was clearly the key to unlocking the altar’s secrets, yet none of them could read the ancient script.

They would have to ask Neeko for help back at camp, though none of them held out much hope

After checking the floor, the only unexplored spot left was the stone coffin sitting on the statue.

PineappleBeer had called Riley over midway through her inspection earlier, so she hadn’t finished searching carefully.

Riley decided to take another thorough look.

She flipped herself lightly and jumped onto the top of the coffin. After a quick search, she actually found something hidden.

Right on the upper surface of the coffin, directly above the turtle statue’s head, lay an extremely shallow groove.

The coffin stone was dark in color, covered with messy intricate patterns. The tiny groove was nearly impossible to spot unless someone touched it by hand.

“Found it.”

Riley waved the other two girls over.

PineappleBeer and TartKing jumped onto the coffin and leaned in closely.

The palm-sized groove had a bizarre shape. It was mostly oval, lined with twisted wavy curves along its edge.

“This shape…

“It looks exactly like that divine mirror.”

Riley stared at the strangely shaped groove on the stone coffin. A glint flashed, and a mirror appeared in her hand.

She had looted the mirror after defeating Nightshade. After testing it countless times, she found it had no special functions. It could not even reflect images like a normal mirror, so she had left it stored away.

It was a small palm-sized mirror that looked more like a creepy piece of artwork than a tool.

Instead of a plain metal frame, its edges were carved from unknown black metal into countless twisting tentacles.

“Is this the mirror Nightshade had?” PineappleBeer recognized the item instantly.

“He clutched this thing right before he transformed into that hideous monster. I even thought it was some weird vanity mirror for him to fix his hair.”

“Who would use something this creepy as a makeup mirror? It’d scare the person looking into it. Besides, it doesn’t reflect anything at all,” Riley joked.

It fits his creepy vibe perfectly though.”

“Hahaha, fair point.”

Riley smiled and carefully held the mirror up toward the groove on the coffin.

As she drew closer, the mirror in her hand began to vibrate faintly. The still metal tentacles along its edge twisted to life, wiggling slowly and making soft scraping noises.

Click.

Riley loosened her grip. The mirror snapped into the groove like it was pulled by a powerful magnet, fitting perfectly without a single gap.

“It worked!”

TartKing gripped her greatsword excitedly.

“Is something gonna happen? Are we getting golden loot? Is some ancient demon gonna pop out and drop rare gear?”

The excitement faded quickly. She glanced nervously toward the staircase leading down to the statue hallway.

“Wait… are those stone statues down there gonna wake up?”

The three girls held their breath, waiting for any changes around them.

One second.

Two seconds.

Five seconds.

Nothing happened.

The only sounds were the bubbling lava below and the occasional distant roar of monsters echoing from above. There was no golden light, no tremors, and no movement from the coffin.

An awkward silence fell over the three of them.

“That’s it?”

“Did we put it in wrong?” TartKing scratched her head and poked the mirror gently with her finger.

“Do we need to drip blood on it to activate it? That’s how it always works in novels.”

“Probably not.” Riley frowned and studied their surroundings. Seeing no new reactions, she pried the mirror back out of the

groove.

“This item might’ve been a one-time use. Nightshade probably drained all its energy already.”

The faint vibration stopped the second the mirror was removed.

Riley tossed the mirror lightly in her hand and held it up toward the surrounding firelight.

The pitch-black surface still reflected nothing. It looked like a matte black void. Only the faint dark moon symbol above left a dim shadow on its surface.

“Oh well. If nothing happens, then nothing happens.”

Riley slipped the mirror back into her inventory and stretched her body.

“We got more than enough loot today anyway.”

‘True.” PineappleBeer sheathed her dagger and checked the system time.

‘We’ve been out here for five hours.

‘Time to head home! I’ll cook dinner for everyone.”

TartKing perked up instantly at the mention of food.

‘Hey,Burger, I gotta tell you something!”

‘What’s up?”

‘Neeko keeps secretly licking Fluffy. She’s licked the fur on Fluffy’s head almost bald.

‘I think she feels bad about the bald spot too. She keeps shoving her own desserts at Fluffy, trying to make her fur grow back faster. Poor Fluffy’s totally traumatized from all the feeding.”
