On the far side of the rocky wasteland, past the swirling snowstorm, faint hoofbeats and rolling wheels echoed through the quiet atmosphere.

Three old wooden caravans slowly came into view.

They were pulled by large, shaggy snow draft horses. Even with their sturdy builds, the horses struggled through the deep snow. White steam puffed from their nostrils, and sharp icicles hung all over their fur.

On the middle caravan, a trembling hand pushed aside the thick curtain.

A young woman’s red, frostbitten face peeked out.

She pointed shakily toward the rocky wasteland.

“That sound was huge. Was that an avalanche? Or monsters? We’ve run into so many beasts these past two days. Let’s take a detour.”

At the front cargo caravan, a rugged middle–aged man dressed in thick sheepskin fur pulled the reins tight.

He squinted and stared through the heavy snow.

A second later, his eyes widened in shock.

In the chaotic stone–strewn battlefield, three strangely dressed humans were brutally beating a massive stone monocer.

“Good heavens… those are mages fighting a demon beast.”

The man muttered quietly, his hands trembling on the reins.

The other travelers in the convoy held their breath in fear.

These mages were the first other humans they had seen in days. They could not move forward, nor could they turn back.

They had no choice but to watch the battle draw to an end.

Riley landed one final beavy blow. The obsidian golem crumbled violently into piles of broke roc
