Chapter 317 Double Jump
“Boss, that Hope Guild guy must’ve left. He hasn’t shown up in ages.
One underling shuffled his cards and let out a mocking laugh. “What else can he do? He can’t cross this swamp. With Mark on guard, his poison potions are useless.”
“Ignore him. We stay here two more days, and we’ll drain every resource from this node. That’s a lot of contribution points.”
“What if his guild sends backup?”
“No need to panic.” The man they called “boss” glanced casually at his cards.
“I checked. Hope Guild is one of the weakest guilds. They only have around thirty members. I doubt they even unlocked their portal. Backup isn’t coming.”
“I win!”
While the men laughed loudly, the archer on duty spoke up.
“Boss, that guy is back. And he brought someone with him.”
“Oh?”
The boss looked down in confusion and then broke into a smirk.
“Just one extra person? It’s easy. We can take them down together.”
He shouted arrogantly toward Riley, “What’s wrong? Had to grab a friend? Junk guilds like yours should stop wasting your time. You can’t get through here. This node belongs to Black Palm now.”
To his surprise, the woman across the swamp made no reply.
She burst into a sprint straight toward the swamp.
Her speed gave him an uneasy feeling. He could barely keep track of her movement.
“Put the cards down! Grab your crossbows! This woman is trouble.”
A bright light flashed in Riley’s hand, and she summoned her snowboard.
“Shoot! Shoot now!” The boss yelled frantically.
Yet the arrows struggled to hit her. Even the shots that landed on her clothes dealt no real damage.

He was not a member of their guild, but she had a good impression of BigMountain. A dependable, sentimental middle-aged man.
“I remember he joined a guild. It’s ranked seventh on the server, not bad at all.”
“Yeah, he’s one of their elite members now.” ToxicReaper nodded. “It’s a small guild, and their leader’s a loyal guy too. BigMountain fits in well over there. He’s honest and genuine.”
He glanced at Riley, hesitating for a moment like he had more to say.
“What is it? Just spit it out.”
“Truth is… I asked him to join us when we first built the guild.” ToxicReaper scratched the back of his neck. “We’re old teammates and fought side by side together.”
“He turned
you
down?” Riley was not surprised.
“Yep.” ToxicReaper sighed. “He said his current guild had treated him well. You know how he is -he’s loyal to a fault. He didn’t wanna seem ungrateful by jumping ships.”
“But…” A faint smile tugged at ToxicReaper’s lips. “Even if he didn’t join us, he’s still on our side He always gives us first dibs on his loot, and he never rips us off.
“I even got him a nice profit back when the Golden Rose Chamber of Commerce caused trouble last time.”
A quiet, involuntary smile crept onto Riley’s face as she listened to him ramble.
“That’s good.”
Riley watched the random bubbles pop in the distant swamp. “Everyone gets to choose their own path. One guild’s just as good as another. I’d be more worried if he abandoned his guild without a second thought.”
“Right?” ToxicReaper chuckled. “He actually wanted to look you up after we got out of the monster forest. He was just too embarrassed. Said he didn’t do much to help back then, and didn’t wanna leech off your strength.”
Riley let out an amused huff. “There’s no such thing as leeching between us. We all survived that dark fog together.
