Riley’s side was far more brutal and straightforward.

She held down an entire cabin alone. The cramped room kept too many crawling monsters from piling at once, leaving her plenty of room to light. Her dual axes whirled nonstop, shredding every monster tha forced its way inside like a meat grinder.

Behind the cover of the buildings and the weakening aura of the bonfire, the survivors finally steadied their ground. Using the narrow terrain, they split the monster horde apart and picked them off little by little.

If things had stayed this way, they might have held out for good.

But the real threat lay with the colossal monsters.

Boom!

The ceiling overhead shook violently, followed by splintering timber. Light inside the cabin dimmed in an instant.

NorthWind snapped his head up.

Through the cracks in the ceiling, a massive compound eye stared down at them.

Spread out! It’s going to stomp right through!NorthWind roared, shoving two WarWolf members out of the way.

The next second-

CRASH!

The giant monster slammed its massive frame straight into the cabin walls, then brought its foot crashing down without hesitation.

The sturdy stone hut collapsed instantly, rubble and wooden beams crashing down all around.

The monster cared nothing for allies or foes. Its crushing foot flattened the wreckage along with more than a dozen crawling monsters crowded around the building.

A sickening squelch echoed out. Black blood sprayed down like rain from under its massive sole.

Help! My leg!A trapped WarWolf member screamed in terror, his lower body pinned tight beneath the

monster’s toe.

Annoyed by the noise beneath its foot, the monster slowly lifted its limb, then slammed it back down with brutal force.

The scream cut off in an instant.

Even the hardened survivors, used to seeing death, froze breathless with dread.

Against overwhelming size and raw power, their resistance felt utterly futile.

Fall back further!NorthWind scrambled out from the wreckage of the neighboring cabin, covered in dust and grime, shouting orders.

The monster lumbered over the collapsed buildings, its enormous form closing in on the altar step by

step.

SouthWind! NorthWind! Lock your shields and make me a ladder!

Trapped with no way out, only a reckless plan could give them a fighting chance.

The four colossal monsters all looked slightly differentand this one stood out for its enormous compound eye.

At PineappleBeer’s sharp shout, the two leaders of the Icefield Drifters Alliance acted on instinct, even without understanding her plan.

They charged 30 yards forward, braced two heavy steel riot shields at an angle, locked them firmly with their shoulders, and dropped into a half crouch. The shields formed a steep, thirtydegree sloped ramp.

Pineapple Beer sprinted forward without hesitation, stepping cleanly onto NorthWind’s shield.

NorthWind grunted under the sudden weight, pushing upward hard to boost her momentum.

Using the shield’s rebound force, Pineapple Beer launched herself skyward like a cannonball, hurtling straight toward the monster’s torso nearly 24 feet above the ground.

The colossal monster spotted the tiny flying intruder and swiped a massive forelimb down to swat her out of the air.

Pineapple Beer stayed calm.

She twisted midair at the last second, dodging the incoming strike with a flawless aerial pivot.

Drawing a dark grappling hook from her waist, she fired it straight into the gaps between the monster’s armored plates. The hook locked tight, and she used its pull to swing clear of the swipe, landing lightly atop the monster’s left shoulder.

Planting her dagger deep into the tough shoulder carapace to anchor herself, Pineapple Beer shouted down toward the ground.
