Ash clamped down on the jerky, fully intending to throw a longer tantrum, but accidentally caught sight of Neeko standing behind Riley with her hands on her hips. He instantly behaved.
Neeko was incredibly displeased with Ash harassing Riley.
Ash spent the most time with Neeko. While Riley was his master and generally didn’t sweat the small stuff, Neeko was a completely different story. If he actually annoyed her, her fists were definitely not made of marshmallow. ☺
This dynamic made everyone laugh even harder.
Joseph and Jack were fighting for their lives trying to hold in their laughter, but right at that moment, Riley looked over at them. Desperate not to lose their composure in front of the esteemed Wizard, the two men tried so hard to stifle it that their facial
о преп expressions contorted into something downright grotesque.
Riley facepalmed slightly. “It’s fine, just laugh if you want to. No need to be so stiff.”
Looking at them, Riley thought back to just a few hours ago. These two natives–who didn’t even have system panels–had braved the monster horde, risking being torn to shreds to deliver arrows and ammo. They had also brought the Flame Wolf that completely turned the tide of the battle.
“I really want to thank you guys for today. You don’t have to be so formal around us. We’re all family. We might have different
lesser than us. Every life here is precious.” abilities, but that doesn’t mean you
“Yes, My Lady!” Joseph and Jack answered in unison, nodding vigorously, their eyes burning with fanatic devotion.
Chatting along the way, the group finally arrived at the camp gates
Rod and Lily were standing guard; everyone else was busy with their respective duties.
Joseph gently reminded Riley about the destroyed pet room. Riley nodded, indicating she was aware, and then told Joseph and Jack to assign the day’s tasks to the others so they could all go rest.
“As you command.” The two bowed respectfully and stepped away.
Riley walked into the inner courtyard with the others.
Despite being mentally prepared, they still felt a pang of heartache seeing the devastation.
The rest of the camp was perfectly intact, but the exquisite wooden cabin attached to the left of the main house–which had been converted into Twiggy and Ash’s room–was completely gone.
In its place was a massive, blackened crater, its edges scorched into a glassy glaze. A few load–bearing pillars still smoking with black soot stood lonely at the bottom. The sharp stench of charred wood hung heavy in the air.
The crime scene was pretty straightforward.
This was the result of the “maternity ward explosion” caused by the Variant Flame Wolf hatching,
“Awooo…”
An incredibly faint, hopelessly guilty whimper drifted from behind them.

The Flame Wolf nervously pawed at the snow with its front legs.
It clearly knew it had caused a catastrophic mess. Those eyes that usually radiated viciousness were now cast downward, it didn’t even dare look at Riley’s face.
It dawdled over to Riley and nudged its massive head forward.
It very deliberately suppressed all the intense heat of its flames, leaving only the natural warmth of its fur, and gently, apologetically nuzzled its forehead against the palm of Riley’s hand resting at her side.
It looked exactly like a giant Husky desperately begging for forgiveness after shredding the living room couch.
But Riley wasn’t actually mad. She raised her hand and gave the wolf’s forehead a vigorous rub.
Its dark red fur felt incredible, somewhat like velvet but with a strange, resilient toughness to it.
The Flame Wolf instantly narrowed its eyes in absolute bliss, a deep rumbling purr vibrating in its throat. Its enormous tail began wagging frantically behind it, as if saying, You pet me, so we’re cool now, right!
“Whoa!” TartKing, standing off to the side, couldn’t hold back anymore. She had been a bit intimidated after seeing how vicious the wolf was in battle, but seeing it act this adorable, she completely lost all self–control.
She cheered and threw herself at the wolf, enthusiastically burying both hands in the softest part of the mane around its neck.
“It’s so warm! This texture is amazing! Oh refusing to stop petting the wolf.
The Flame Wolf was highly intellig
slightest.
