Hanna’s pupils contracted sharply. She tried to dart backward, but there was barely any footing to spare.

“Phew! That was terrifying!” Hanna’s heart pounded wildly. She’d been dazed when Riley pulled her away, yet her absolute trust in the guild leader kept her completely unresisting.

Riley quickly stepped aside to clear the path, gesturing for the others to cross the river without delay.

The next instant, the river surface burst apart.

Roar!

The crocodile surged out of the water once more, enraged by its missed strike. This time, Riley did not dodge. She charged straight ahead, axes raised to meet the beast head–on.

Boom! Crack!

Riley collided directly with the giant crocodile. The monster’s fatal bite was violently knocked off course. Its jaws snapped shut on empty air with a sharp, brittle crack.

Her axes failed to pierce its tough scaled hide, but the sheer impact threw the creature’s massive body off balance mid–leap. It crashed heavily into the shallow river water, sending a towering spray crashing outward.

Screech!

Wracked with pain, the crocodile thrashed wildly in the water, locking its bloodshot gaze solely on Riley.

It twisted its bulky frame and lashed its tail forward like a tempered steel whip.

Riley’s only goal had been to buy the others time. Now that her objective was complete, she rolled backward smoothly, evading the sweeping attack entirely.

Watching Riley’s group finish crossing the river safely, the crocodile writhed furiously in place, kicking up wave after wave of frothy water in a fit of pure rage.

On the opposite bank, Beagle, Ketchup, and the others boldly stuck out their tongues and made mocking faces.

Helpless to retaliate, the crocodile finally sank into the deeper river currents, lying in wait for its next prey.

The party turned away and continued their advance.

“Has anyone ever told you how cool you are?” Beagle spoke up.

“Oh?” Riley sheathed her axes and lifted an eyebrow. “Are you trying to compliment me?”

Hanna promptly swatted him from behind. “I think you’d like a little cooling dip in the river, don’t you?”

“My bad! All girls are awesome–especially you, Hanna!” Beagle quickly backtracked with a flattering grin.

His antics drew laughter from LoneWolf and the rest of the team.

Shortly after exiting the cavern, the surrounding scenery shifted back into familiar brick tunnels, and the group resumed their dungeon exploration.

After cver three hours of looting chests and clearing monsters, they finally neared their prearranged rendezvous point.

“We’re almost there.” Riley’s spirits lifted.

Hanna immediately pulled out a communication card and attempted to make contact.

“Hanna! Are you guys here yet?!”

“It’s me. We’re on our way. What’s your exact location?” Hanna replied at once.

“Thank goodness! Is the president with you too?! We’re at the sector seven ruins. Look for the wall torch with six carved patterns along the tunnel, then turn right. There’s a hidden door at the very end. We’ve got eleven people gathered here already!”

The voice on the other end brimmed with elation, relieved to have survived this long.

Riley and Hanna exchanged a glance, quiet smiles tugging at both their lips.

The dungeon was a labyrinth of winding tunnels. Many dim corridors concealed hidden compartments and secret doors.

Some were abandoned dead ends, others housed treasure vaults, and a few hid dormant monsters waiting to ambush intruders.

Riley, Hanna, LoneWolf, and the rest of their seven–man team moved swiftly through the darkness.

Guided by their prior directions and a premium map purchased from the market, they bypassed multiple trapped dead ends and arrived safely before the hidden door.
