Chapter 629 Winning the Rid
Chapter 629 Winning the Bid
“Twelve thousand!”
TartKing tightened her hand beneath her cloak. The price was sky–high, and they’d reached a critical call.
Riley didn’t back down right away.
She stared straight at Bidder 22.
His increments were too slow.
It wasn’t that he refused to bid higher. He was counting his tokens. He was clearly hitting his limit.
Riley raised her bidding token.
“Twelve thousand three hundred.”
The whole hall fell quiet.
Raising by a paltry three hundred applied petty pressure, the kind of move that wore opponents down.
Bidder 22 froze for a split second.
His partner behind him leaned in and whispered something else.
The fat guy slammed a fist against the armrest.
“Twelve thousand five hundred!”
The auctioneer’s gaze drifted to Riley.
Riley stayed calm.
She quickly ran through their remaining balance and all the items they’d already won.
They hadn’t splurged on anything major earlier, so they could still barely afford this.
Bidder 22, on the other hand, was far worse off.
Riley lifted her token again.
“Twelve thousand eight hundred.”
This time, the entire room went dead silent.
Bidder 22 half shot up from his seat, only to be yanked back down by his teammate.
He locked onto Riley’s direction and ground the words out through his teeth.
“Thirteen thousand.”
The auctioneer’s eyes swept over to Riley.

Riley didn’t hesitate for a single second and raised the bid again.
“Thirteen thousand two hundred.”
The fat guy’s breathing turned labored.
He hesitated for a long moment, whispered a quick discussion with his partner, then raised his token once more.
“Fourteen thousand!”
Riley matched the bid instantly, ditching the tiny increments this time.
“Fourteen thousand.”
The fat guy froze on the spot and glanced toward Riley’s seat.
It wasn’t that he didn’t want to keep going.
He simply couldn’t afford it.
The auctioneer deliberately paused for a few seconds.
“Fourteen thousand, first call.”
Bidder 22 squeezed his bidding token so tight his knuckles whitened.
“Fourteen thousand, second call.”
His partner muttered something quiet beside him.
The fat guy nodded, finally dropped his token, and slumped back into his chair.
‘Fourteen thousand, third call. Sold.”
The silver hammer crashed down.
‘Crimson Scale Heart–Lock Underarmor goes to Bidder 37.”
TartKing let out a long, relieved breath.

A faint smile tugged at PineappleBeer’s lips. “If I didn’t know how tight our budget actually is, I’d really think you’re swimming in :okens.”
Riley chuckled softly. “I had to put on a strong front. Otherwise, I’d never scare him off.”
For the rest of the auction, Riley let TartKing and PineappleBeer keep watch on the lots.
Securing the underarmor had basically accomplished their main goal. They’d boosted their combat power as much as possible with their Frost Tokens.
Riley headed to the backstage first to finish the armor transaction and claim her item.

When she returned to the hall, Bidder 22’s group hadn’t said a single word.
Still, Riley could feel his gaze locked firmly on her. –
Once the auction ended, guests were dismissed in numbered batches.
Riley’s group didn’t leave with the first wave.
They stayed seated and watched the front–row bidders file out one group after another.
TartKing leaned in. “Do you think Bidder 22’ll cause trouble?”
“He will,” Riley said plainly.
TartKing blinked. “You’re that sure?”

PineappleBeer cut in. “He clearly had his heart set on this armor. He overspent on too many items earlier and dug himself into a hole, only to lose the one piece that fit his build perfectly. The way they reacted just now? They’ve definitely got some sketchy plans.”
“It’s fine,” Riley said calmly. “No fighting’s allowed in the market district anyway. Let’s all swap to our best gear now. We’ll handle whatever comes our way. We’re not far from the others, so holding out until backup arrives won’t be hard.”
The other two nodded in agreement.
PineappleBeer fastened the new Gap Retreat Short Cloak she’d bought from Good. It wasn’t from the auction, but it was perfect for whatever trouble might come next.
TartKing adjusted her Warm Feather Blessing Charm and Radiant Prayer Crown, making sure all her healing gear was ready.
Riley pulled out the newly acquired Rime–Halt Spikes, handed three to PineappleBeer, and kept three for herself.
She held onto all the Blast–Rune Spikes.
“Don’t hold back if they try anything.”
“Got it.” TartKing nodded.
