Chapter 631 Marked Prey

Chapter 631 Marked Prey

Riley lifted her hands, and her axes settled into her palms.

Her Crimson Scale Heart-Lock Underarmor clung to her body, sending a steady warm sensation through her chest and abdomen.

Pineapple Beer fastened her Gap Retreat Short Cloak tight. The shadow patterns along the hem twitched faintly as she flipped her Time-Severing Shadow Blade into a reverse grip and dropped her center of gravity low.

TartKing positioned herself behind the two of them.

Her Warm Feather Blessing Charm glowed with a faint pale gold light. The Radiant Prayer Crown on her head stabilized her mental state. At the same time, she slipped a Paralysis Relief Needle between the fingers of her left hand, ready for use.

Watching their battle-ready stances, the fat man narrowed his eyes.

“So you’re not handing it over.”

Riley stared right back at him.

“You talk too much. Come take it if you’re strong enough. Honestly, I’m pretty interested in your gear too.”

The smirk on the fat man’s face vanished.

The short staff in the tall man’s hands flared to life, and the gray glow of the black rune plate on the ground deepened.

The stocky man dragged his curved axe across the stone ground, sparking tiny flecks of fire.

The fat man raised his brand-new shield, planting one heavy step forward like a solid walking wall of flesh.

“Let’s go then.”

Riley crossed her twin axes, the blades ringing softly as they brushed against each other.

She wanted to find out for herself.

Was this Crimson Scale Heart-Lock Underarmor really worth the tokens she’d spent?

The fat man made the first move.

He tilted his shield forward, sank his weight, and advanced steadily behind the cover of his shield.

A ring of earth-yellow patterns surfaced across the shield’s face.

Riley spotted it instantly-this was no ordinary defensive buff.

The next second, the tall man behind the fat man raised his short staff. The runestone at the tip lit up, and the black rune plate on the ground expanded a thick gray line outward.

The gray sweep washed over the three of them.

TartKing tried to step back, only for her feet to suddenly feel heavy, like she’d stepped into half-solidified mud.

“Slow field,” Pineapple Beer warned.

She slid half a step sideways the second the words left her mouth.

Her Shadow Gap Ring flickered faintly. The gray slowing line brushed past her feet, failing to lock her movement.

The stocky man seized the opening to strike.

He was short in stature, but his speed was shockingly fast. He dragged his curved axe along the ground, then snapped it upward the moment he reached Riley’s left side. The blade tore through the air with a dark red arc, aiming straight for the back of her knees.

This strike wasn’t meant to kill.

It was meant to cripple her movement.

Riley didn’t retreat.

She shifted her left foot backward, her Polar Walker Boots carrying her into a clean side slide. She pressed one of her axes downward, perfectly locking the upward swing of the enemy’s curved axe.

A sharp metallic crash exploded through the air.

The stocky man’s wrist jolted under the impact, his expression shifting instantly.

“Crazy strength. Your level’s high.”

Riley’s second axe was already swinging toward his shoulder.

The stocky man didn’t dare tank the hit. He ducked low and rolled backward, taking cover behind the fat man’s shield.

The fat man immediately shifted his shield horizontally to block.

Riley’s axe crashed into the shield’s surface. The glowing patterns flared brightly, and a violent shockwave surged up the axe handle toward her arm.

But her underarmor spread a warm sensation across her chest. Her Earthen Battle Wristband soaked up the residual vibration at the same time. She only stepped back half a pace. She pressed her heel firmly into the ground, and the stability effect of her Mountain-Shatter Tactical Pants drained the recoil force straight into the stone floor.

The fat man’s eyes twitched.

“How high’s your constitution stat?”

Riley ignored the question.

She stepped forward.

The fat man instantly pulled his shield back half an inch, no longer daring to underestimate

her.

The tall man also sensed something wrong. He twisted his staff, and the gray slowing lines constricted tighter.

“Don’t fight her head-on. Her stats are abnormal.”

“You think I can’t tell?” the fat man sneered.

Right after he spoke, the Breath-Bite Wolftooth Necklace around his neck flickered to life.

A tiny black wolftooth phantom shot out from the pendant and sank straight into Riley’s chest.

A system prompt popped up at the edge of Riley’s vision.

[You have been marked by Break Mark.]

The fat man grinned maliciously.

“Now you get to see what your tokens couldn’t buy back at the auction.”

Riley held still.

She knew exactly what the necklace did.

After being marked, any high-speed movement, stealth, dash, or charged attack would expose a tiny, critical flaw for a split second.

If she charged forward now, the fat man definitely had a follow-up trap waiting.
