Riley didn’t push for more attacks. She spun around and positioned herself in front of the other two, guarding their flanks.
The silver core on the Star Track Gatekeeper’s chest opened and closed slowly. It dragged its long blade across the ground, sending wave after wave of silver lines chasing after them.
Riley sliced apart the incoming lines with her Storm Splitter Qual Axes. TartKing blocked the dragging force with her Frosted Judgment Greatsword. PineappleBeer stayed sandwiched between them, tossing out quiet trajectory warnings every now and then, but she was in no shape to rejoin the fight properly.
The three of them retreated along the outer edge of the seven stone pillars.
The stabilized star track paths stretched out behind them, while the Gatekeeper closed in step by step ahead.
Riley finished off the last drop of her stamina potion, tossed the empty bottle aside, and raised her dual axes once again.
“Tart, keep Pine safe.”
Tartking planted her greatsword horizontally in front of her chest and took a quick breath.
“Got it! Leave it to me!”
PineappleBeer stared up at their backs, tightening her grip on her dagger. Faint silver–gray specks still flickered nonstop in her
eyes.
The Star Track Gatekeeper lifted its blade again.
Riley stepped forward, taking the front line entirely on herself.
Before the blade could swing down, the silver lines on the ground stirred first.
The star tracks along the outer pillars tensed up like they’d been yanked tight from underground. Dozens of thin lines straightened at once, completely blocking their retreat route. TartKing had just stepped back half a pace when her heel brushed a glowing silver line.
She reacted instantly, slamming her greatsword backward.
The blade crashed into the silver line, and her temporary shield flared bright for a split second.
The line bent under the impact but didn’t break.
The next moment, a powerful drag pulled TartKing backward. Her boots screeched harshly against the black stone platform.
Riley turned sharply, hooked her axe handle around TartKing’s waist, and hauled her back to safety.
“Watch your step. Don’t touch the lines.”
Tartking barely caught her breath.
“These lines are growing on their own!”
Leaning behind the two of them, PineappleBeer pressed her temples, layers of overlapping star tracks swirling in her vision.

She could see exactly where the blade would strike next, and spot the hidden lines shifting quietly beneath their feet. But the images flooded her mind too fast, making her skull throb violently.
“Front left, three seconds out!” Pineapple Beer shouted.
Riley didn’t hesitate and darted sideways.
The Star Track Gatekeeper slid across the silver lines like it was gliding on ice, appearing right at Riley’s front left in the blink of an
eye.
It swung its long blade horizontally.
Riley crossed her dual axes to block.
Clang!
Sparks and silver light exploded outward.
The heavy impact weighed her arms down. Fine cracks spread across the black stone under her feet, and she stumbled back half a step..
This strike hit far harder than the last one.
The silver core on the Gatekeeper’s chest hung half open, swirling with tiny sparks inside.
It had no breath, no unnecessary movements. After pinning Riley’s axes down with its blade, it lifted its free hand and tapped a finger against the ground.
The silver lines right under Riley’s feet blazed to life.
Sensing imminent danger, Riley immediately stomped the ground with Mountain–Shatter Step.
The stone platform shuddered, shifting the active silver lines off her feet.
But two hidden lines snapped into place right after, locking tightly around her ankles from the front and back.
TartKing switched to her staff, landing a heal on Riley first before firing off a small fireball.
The fireball struck the Gatekeeper’s wrist. It didn’t deal much damage, but the burst of light disrupted its movement for a split
second.
Riley twisted her body in the gap, slashing downward with her dual axes and forcing the two trapping lines apart. She didn’t chase the attack, driving a Rime–Halt Spike into the ground behind her.
Cold frost spread outward.
Finally, a small safe patch opened up under their feet, clear of all star tracks.
TartKing pulled PineappleBeer back to the edge of the frosted area, bit open a mental recovery potion, and handed it straight to PineappleBeer.
PineappleBeer took the potion but didn’t drink it right away.
She looked past TartKing’s shoulder, locking her gaze on the Gatekeeper.
