At times, the light looked as gentle as that of any other portal in the hall. But every so often, it stretched sharply thin, tearing into a narrow black slit. The second the slit appeared, the gray rune token on Riley’s waist grew hot, and the starfire crystal on her new gloves warmed up faintly too.
TartKing’s gray rune token reacted exactly the same way.
She reached inside her clothes to touch it and let out a quiet breath.
“This thing Good gave us is basically a hot potato once we get this deep.”
PineappleBeer stepped forward to head into the portal.
Riley lifted a hand and grabbed her wrist to stop her.
“Wait a second.”
PineappleBeer glanced back at her.
“What’s wrong?”
“If anything feels off after we go in, find stable ground first. Don’t rush forward no matter what.”
Pineapple Beer nodded.
“Got it.”
TartKing tightened her Froststar Battle Prayer Gloves, then swapped between her staff and greatsword once to get ready.
“We’ll play defense first once we’re inside. Riley takes the front, I’ll stay in the middle, and Pine, don’t go running off on your own.”
PineappleBeer shot her a quick look.
“Since when are you giving me orders?”
TartKing said seriously, “You’ve been acting weird lately, and that strange power of yours drains you hard. I’m just looking out for you.”
PineappleBeer looked like she wanted to argue, but she finally just agreed.

“Fine.”
Riley studied her quietly. Something was definitely off with PineappleBeer right now.

It was like she was forcing herself to mimic her usual reactions–half a beat slow, missing her usual edge.
The orc NPC suddenly spoke from behind his counter.
“Heading to Floor 20?”
Riley turned toward him.
The orc didn’t bother looking up at them. He just hammered an iron nail into the cracked base of his cabinet.
“The portal’s still unstable. Don’t come crying to me for a refund if you die in there.”
TartKing blinked. “We won’t exactly be able to come back if we’re dead, y’know.”
The orc thought about it for a second.
“Fair enough.”
He went right back to fixing his cabinet after that.
Riley looked away and stepped straight into the portal.
The moment she crossed through, the hall behind her split into overlapping layers of visuals.
In the first layer, the dwarves were still hammering at the walls.
In the second layer, the walls had already crumbled, and silver cracks snaked all over the hall like crawling vines.
In the third layer, countless blurry figures crowded around the portal. Some were shouting, some were charging inside, and others lay dead at the frame, their bodies sliced in half by black light slits.
The bizarre sight vanished in the blink of an eye.
The next second, Riley’s shoes landed on soft grass.
She steadied her stance instantly, raising her Storm Splitter Dual Axes at the ready.

A gust of wind blew straight at her face.
The air smelled of fresh grass mixed with burnt ash.
They were no longer standing on the dungeon’s stone platform.
A wide open plain stretched out in front of them.

The grass was dull gray, like it had been scorched by fire and regrown from the ashes. Scattered small cabins dotted the distance, some with intact roofs and others half–collapsed. Farther out stood clusters of uneven trees with dark green foliage, their leaves swaying sluggishly in the wind.
There was actual sky up above.
A grayish–blue sky stretched overhead, weighed down by low–hanging clouds. Silver cracks split through the cloud layer, opening and closing slowly like unhealed wounds.
TartKing landed two steps behind Riley.
Her legs wobbled and she nearly lost her balance, quickly propping herself up with her Frosted Judgment Greatsword.
“This is a dungeon floor?”
She stared blankly at the distant cabins and woods, completely confused.
“Are we actually on Floor 20, or did we get teleported to some whole other world?”
Riley didn’t answer.
She was just as stunned, scanning their surroundings carefully.
No matter how the terrain shifted on the first 19 floors, every area had felt rigid and structured -narrow corridors, ruined cities, Wet Bone Canal, Broken Bridge Wind Corridor, Star Track Stone Platforms. They all felt like man–made, rule–bound dungeon zones.
This place was nothing like that.
There was wind, a real horizon, abandoned buildings, and a glinting river running far in the distance.
If the system prompt hadn’t popped up in front of her eyes, she would’ve sworn they’d been kicked straight out of the dungeon.
