Chapter 678 Frozen Star Battlefield

It was a massive underground cavern.

There was no ceiling overhead.

Or rather, the ceiling was too far up to see.

Above their heads, beneath their feet, and all around themstarlight hung frozen in place.

Countless silverwhite light specks floated midair, like an entire starry sky had been crammed deep inside the mountain. Dark cracked rifts spread between the glowing points. Suspended right next to those rifts were people, monsters, rubble, weapons, flames, and broken building fragments.

Everything was locked in stillness.

One person stayed frozen midsword swing, their blade just an inch away from another’s neck.

Another stood with a scroll halfunfolded, its teleport light already lit up but completely stalled midcharge.

A monster’s jaws were stretched wide, the black flame pouring from its mouth frozen into a twisting serpent shape.

A stone platform lay shattered into dozens of pieces. Thin silver lines strung between the broken chunks, holding them just barely from falling apart completely.

Further in the distance, several giant metal rings hovered in the void.

The centers of the rings were empty, except for a brighter cluster of silver light locked inside. Time around that glow looked sliced into countless thin layerssome fast, some slow, some completely frozen solid.

Riley stood at the bottom of the stairs, her Storm Splitter Dual Axes hanging loosely at her sides.

She’d seen plenty of bizarre, otherworldly scenes before, but nothing like this place.

It felt like a disaster that never actually ended.

Explosions, fights, desperate runs, deathsevery single moment frozen at the exact same instant.

It took TartKing a long time to find her voice.

Whatexactly happened down here?

PineappleBeer didn’t answer.

She took one step forward.

All the shadows at her feet surged past her at once, streaming out into the starfilled frozen space ahead.

The brightest silver glow in the distance flickered faintly.

Like it was responding to her.

PineappleBeer took another step forward.

Her shadows (moved faster than she did. They glided across the ground, over floating rubble and suspended debris, drifting toward the deepest part of the cavern from every direction.

Each shadow had a slightly different shape. Some held daggers, some were unarmed, some wore cloaks, and others were fitted with complex, heavy gear.

TartKing’s fingers went cold as she watched them.

She reached out quickly to grab PineappleBeer’s arm.

Pine.

PineappleBeer came to a stop.

It wasn’t TartKing’s pull that halted her. It looked more like her body stuttered on its

Riley stayed on the last step of the staircase, scanning the entire cavern carefully.

The space was far bigger than it had looked from above.

A stone platform floated in the starry void. There were no intact walls around it, only broken stone beams, fractured railings and floating architectural wreckage.

Several sections of the platform’s edge had crumbled away. Loose stones hung frozen midfall. No ground was visible far below- only layer after layer of floating silver lights.

These specks weren’t real stars.

Some hovered close enough to wrap around their fingers and weapons. Others looked distant, tucked deep within the darkness. Between the glowing spots, torn black rifts opened and closed slowly, as if the whole space was struggling to hold itself together.

TartKing summoned her Frosted Judgment Greatsword and slung it over her shoulder.

Burger, stay careful.

Riley nodded softly, throwing a quick calming glance toward TartKing, who was clearly on edge.

Every corner of this place felt wrong.

Still, her gaze locked firmly onto the center of the platform.

A battlefield lay frozen there.

A combat zone trapped in time.

A few stone tables and benches sat in the platform’s middle. Half of one table was split cleanly down the middle. Cups, chess pieces and several strange black discs floated midair above it.

At the back stood a tall stone throne. Its armrests were carved with unfamiliar beast heads, and broken silver lines were embedded across its back.

Dozens of frozen survivors formed a halfcircle in front of the throne.

All of them were locked midattack, midcharge.
