Chapter 691 Broken Memories From the Past

Burger, look up at the sky!

Riley snapped her gaze upward.

The starry sky above the platform had been torn open

Shards of imagery slowly surfaced out of the darkness.

They looked like shattered pieces of a mirror, floating up one by one. Every fragment heid different scenes: shadows flickering, blazing fires, people running, snowfields stained with blood, and countless versions of PineappleBeer in different states.

The crystal in PineappleBeer’s hand turned heavy all of a sudden.

Her face drained of color, as if every floating shard was tugging at her at once.

Every shadow across the platform lifted their heads.

Standing right beside her, Riley and TartKing saw it clearly.

All those shadows were staring at PineappleBeer.

And they were staring right back at them too.

The first fragment of memory drifted slowly downward.

It showed a vast snowfield.

Charred black earth peeked out from under the snow. Half the camp fences were broken, and the wooden cabins were burned down to nothing but charred frames. More than a dozen survivors clustered around a supply crate, none of them willing to step

back first.

Inside the crate were only a few packs of compressed rations, several lowgrade potions, and a single blue wrist guard.

Someone reached out to grab the loot.

In the next second, a blade flashed down.

Blood splattered across the white snow.

Inside the memory shard, a younger PineappleBeer stood apart from the crowd. She didn’t have her fine hightier gear yet, only a tattered cloak and a chipped short dagger in her grip. She watched the brutal scramble, her face lacking the cold indifference she had now. Her brows were furrowed, but her eyes weren’t numb or empty.

She started to step forward to intervene.

A hand shot out and stopped her.

It was the black sword man.

It’s blade wasn’t as sharp as it was now, and his shoulder armor was worn and beat up. He stood beside young Pineapplefieer and whispered softly, Don’t go You can’t save them.

Young PineappleBeer turned to look at him.

He offered no further explanation and pulled her back half a step.

Right after that, the fight around the supply crate escalated. Multiple skills exploded at once, and the person who’d reached for the crate first was cut down by two other survivors teaming up on him.

The memory shard trembled, and the scene shifted to a dark night.

Inside a narrow cave, Pineapple Beer and the black sword man stood backtoback guarding the entrance. The silvergray armored woman knelt on the cave floor, using her formation plate to seal off all the hidden traps around the opening. The tealblack robed woman sat deep inside the cave, her staff glowing faintly as she stopped the bleeding on PineappleBeer’s shoulder wound.

Monsters outside slammed relentlessly against the cave walls.

Stones kept crumbling and falling from the ceiling.

Before Riley and TartKing could watch further, a spear from the darkblue faction came darting at them.

Riley smashed the spear tip aside with her axe and shoved TartKing backward.

Stay focused.

TartKing snapped back to her senses instantly. She lifted her staff and landed a heal on Riley’s shoulder. The windblade gash from earlier closed up quickly. She then swapped to her greatsword and swatted away a stone hook that shot out from the tomb’s traps.

The fighting on the platform never paused for the floating memories,

If anything, the factions grew even more frantic after the shards appeared.

The black sword man glanced up at the drifting fragments, his face turning pitch dark.

Ignore those things.

He forced PineappleBeer back with a sharp blade strike and growled in a low voice, It’s all just illusions messing with your mind

PineappleBeer stood on the throne steps, the crystal still hovering above her palm.

Her gaze was unfocused as she looked straight at the black sword man.

We knew each other before.

The black sword man tightened his grip on his blade.

We did.

You saved me before?

I did.He stared right back at her, his tone dropping stowly. And I’m saving you now. Hand over the crystal. Don’t be stubborn

The teal black robed woman stood behind him, her face growing even paler.

The black sword man paid her no mind

He took a step forward, lowering his sword tip, putting on a stance like he had no intention of fighting for the moment.

Pine, you trusted me once, Trust me one more time.

The silvergray armored woman’s formation plate floated at her side, its glowing lights never fading for a single second.

Riley saw right through their act

While distracting PineappleBeer with words, they were quietly sealing off every escape route.

The black sword man held PineappleBeer’s full attention.
