Winter.

Mars returned. His lips were chapped, his skin was rough, and his hands were covered in frostbite. Milka's heart ached so much her brow remained in a constant knot. She had heard a folk remedy that if you gathered the winter snow, let it melt, and stored the water for a year, it could cure frostbite the following winter.

Milka even bought the jars in advance, just waiting for the sky to start snowing.

The potted plants at home had withered from the cold. Whenever Mars managed to come home, he was instantly put to work as his wife's designated heavy lifter. "Where should I put this bamboo?"

Mars had finally achieved the life he always dreamed of. "We'll enjoy ourselves for two years, then have a baby."

He came home to Milka, and woke up with her in his arms.

Sometimes, Mars felt like the dream was too good to be true. He would pull Milka into a tight hug and kiss her so passionately it actually hurt. Annoyed, she would smack his chest. "Damn it, Mars, you bit my lip!"

Meanwhile, Henry was slowly developing a habit of sleeping in. He hated leaving the warmth of his bed in the mornings, but his ruthless father always yanked him out from under the covers anyway. Still half-asleep, he would be dressed, and the moment his clothes were on, his beloved mother would throw the bedroom windows wide open to air out the room.

"Honey, don't put him in that yellow jacket. Have him wear the leather one today," Mia said, handing her husband a different outfit.

Mia had bought her son an entire wardrobe of adorable clothes. In the morning, he would step out looking like a pristine, cute little doll. But by the time he came home at night... "Hahaha, Mom, I went playing in the mud!"

So she started buying him dark-colored clothes. Sure, they hid the dirt better, but Mia still felt gross about it. She always knew that even if he didn't look dirty, the kid was absolutely filthy.

And so, the daily routine of changing him into spotless clothes continued.
