Jennie glanced at the empty seat beside her and let out an annoyed scoff. "Fine. Don't show up." She tossed her backpack onto the desk, buried her face in her arms, and went to sleep.
Cooper had been standing by the door for a while, peering through the crack. He watched her mutter something under her breath before slumping onto her desk to nap.
Cooper cursed his best friend under his breath. "I helped secure your damn throne, and now I have to babysit your sister too."
Jennie, who hadn't fully fallen asleep yet, suddenly felt someone yank her hair. "Dammit, who do you think you... Cooper?"
Cooper didn't even look at her. "Page 79. Market Analysis and Volatility Curves. Cross-reference it with the industry distribution chart on the screen to understand the concept."
Jennie flipped open her textbook. When the elderly professor noticed Cooper had finally arrived, he nodded and offered a polite greeting.
For every sentence the professor spoke, Cooper sat beside her and quietly translated it.
Whenever Jennie didn't understand something, she never bothered asking the professor; she simply asked Cooper. And Cooper never needed to ask the professor either. He'd just snatch her pen and sketch out the explanation right on her textbook.
By the time class ended, Jennie and Cooper looked like a young couple caught in a petty lover's quarrel, the atmosphere between them terribly awkward. Most of the awkwardness radiated from Jennie, while Cooper just sat back, waiting for her to swallow her pride and apologize.
Back at home, it was the dead of night.
Boss Andre, having spent the last four years as a doting father, woke up in the middle of the night. He quietly padded over to his brother-in-law's bedroom to see if his precious son had kicked off the blankets again.
Sure enough, the blankets were kicked off.
The boy's pajama pants were bunched up all the way to his knees.
A phone was tossed carelessly on the bed, and his tiny hand still gripped his smartwatch as he slept face-down on the pillow.
Andre gently pulled his son closer, tugging the pajama pants down over his knees. He carefully pried the smartwatch from his grasp, set it on the nightstand, and tucked him securely beneath the covers.
Seeing his wife's phone was completely dead, Andre picked it up to charge it.
Before leaving, Andre gazed down at his devastatingly adorable son. He leaned down, pressing a soft kiss against his forehead, and murmured with a smile, "You little brat. Such a troublemaker."
After finishing the call with her mother-in-law, Milka hurriedly dialed her husband back. "Hey, are you here yet?"
Mars sounded incredibly jealous. "Oh, so now you finally remember I exist? You hung up on me pretty damn fast earlier. Would it have killed you to make Leah wait two seconds? Why'd you answer my call just to hang up and take hers?"
Milka rolled her eyes. "...Just tell me where you are. I'm heading toward the exit, and my hands are full."
"Now you want to know where I am? Why didn't you ask earlier... Hello? Hello? Hello!"
Mars hadn't even finished his petty rant before his wife, refusing to indulge his nonsense, hung up on him again.
Defeated, Mars accepted his fate and called her back.
This time, Milka answered as she pushed her suitcase along. "Are you done complaining?"
"I've been waiting for you at the West Exit for an hour. The second you walk out, I'll be right there."
