"I am waiting for you," Mr. Calder said. "James, who are you waiting for?"
"Waiting for my sister!" James chirped. "She promised to give me a big hug today!"
They arrived around noon.
Every time Leo visited, the Calders were utterly stunned by the sheer volume of gifts he brought.
Ever since James was born, Leo made sure to include snacks and toys for his future brother-in-law.
He was systematically winning over the entire Calder household, ensuring there would be zero resistance when he finally asked for Anya's hand.
During his two-day stay in Willowtown, Mr. Calder spent a lot of time chatting with Leo. The more they talked, the more he liked his prospective son-in-law. Privately, he told his wife, "If Leo ends up marrying into our family, I'd be more than happy."
When it was time for Leo to leave, Anya lingered by the door, completely reluctant to let him go. She dragged James along, watching Leo's car until it disappeared down the street before finally heading back inside.
At the dinner table, Anya excitedly shared stories about her work. Her parents couldn't help but feel a wave of nostalgia; in their minds, she was still a wide-eyed college freshman, yet here she was, fully immersed in her career.
During the holiday family visits, Henry managed to get himself disciplined by his dad again at a relative's house. Everyone always viewed Andre as an untouchable, god-like figure, but seeing him scold his son in such a grounded, relatable way made everyone realize that, beneath it all, he was just a regular father.
Andre carried his little troublemaker to the car, listening to him sniffle.
Once Henry was done crying, he immediately climbed onto his dad's lap and planted two big kisses on his cheek.
Andre could never quite figure out his son's dramatic personality. Henry was just like his mother—he demanded that his fierce, overwhelming affection be met with equal enthusiasm.
So, every time, Andre had to return his son's demanding love.
It started snowing again.
The world was blanketed in white. Outside, the freezing wind turned people's cheeks red, but inside, someone was turning red just from struggling to eat a caramel apple.
"Daddy, I can't bite it!"
Andre walked over and helped his son break through the hard candy shell.
