The mother and son each took one of Andre's hands. He smiled, waved goodbye to the executives, and happily got into the car.
"Honey, the going rate for a pickup is fifty dollars," Mia said.
"Daddy, my rate is fifty dollars too!" Henry chimed in.
Andre was speechless.
He had expected this. Andre rarely carried cash, but knowing his family, he had specifically withdrawn a hundred dollars in ten-dollar bills on his way to the dinner.
Once they were in the car, the mother-son duo each gleefully counted out five bills.
Mia happily hugged her husband and gave him a kiss. In the backseat, Henry thought his dad looked so cool handling cash that he tried to mimic the motion with his tiny hands, ending up scattering the bills all over the back row.
"Mommy, my money flew away!"
"Give the money to Mommy. Your hands are too small, and if we open the window, it'll blow right out. I'll keep it safe for you, and you can play with it when we get home."
Having no real concept of money, the little guy innocently handed all his cash over to his mother.
Andre looked at his family's little penny-pincher and laughed. "He's getting older. He's going to catch onto this eventually."
"That's exactly why I'm taking advantage of him while he's still naive," Mia reasoned.
On the drive home, they hit a patch of road construction. The bumpy ride made Andre's stomach churn.
As soon as they got inside, Mia knew her husband was feeling sick from the alcohol. She quickly helped him upstairs to their bedroom. "Henry, go put your dad's shoes away. I don't have time to watch you, so be a good boy."
"Okay Mommy! I can take care of Daddy too."
The clever little toddler ran over to the water dispenser. In the past, he needed a stool to reach it, but now he somehow managed to scramble right onto the counter. He grabbed his dad's cup, filled it with water, slid back down to the floor, and carefully carried it upstairs.
A maid followed closely behind him, worried the little boy might trip and hurt himself on the glass.
