BENEDICT

The answer to Claire’s question was bowling. It was something two people could do at that hour and, hopefully, have a good time doing it Was it an activity that might be considered a bit dated? Definitely. But that didn’t mean it was a bad idea. It also came as a surprise that she hadn’t ever bowled before

“You’ll have to show me how it’s done,” Claire informed him as they waited for the clerk to bring them a pair of shoes.

Benedict was barely paying attention, as he was still too caught off guard that, not only did her dress have pockets, she’d seen fit to bring a pair of antle socks on the date. Why? That was something he might never know because, when he’d asked, Claire had given him an alluring smirk while saying. “Wouldn’:

you like to know.”

The shoes smelled of disinfectant, polish, and the feet of at least ten other people. Benedict didn’t want to put them on but they wouldn’t be allowed to bowl if he didn’t; and Claire didn’t seem to have any misgivings as she slipped on the pair. she’d been given.

Shoes on and properly laced, the wolf led the way to their lane where he proceeded to show his mate the ins and outs of bowling.

“Grab a bowling ball,” he explained, holding up the sphere that he didn’t find heavy but, from the look on Claire’s face when she took one for herself, it wouldn’t be an opinion they shared. “And you roll it down the lane towards the pins.” He pointed to each thing as he spoke. “The goal is to knock down all

ten pins.”

“Sounds simple enough,” Claire nodded, using both arms to hold the ball as if it were a child.

“You get two tries before the pins are reset. If you get all ten on your first try it’s a strike; in two it’s a spare.”

“And if you fail to knock all of them down?”

“It’s… uh… I don’t remember the name. It’s a good job?”

Claire rolled her eyes but the smile was still on her face.

“Why don’t you go first,” he offered, taking a step back. “Give the ball a roll and see what happens. Remember to watch out for the gutters.”

His mate glanced at him, then at their lane, and shrugged. “Alright.”

It took all his self control to keep his laughter in check as she squatted, rolling the ball from between her legs. There was enough force behind the ball that it reached the pins… by taking a few seconds longer than normal to get there. Not to mention it’d fallen into the guster long before then.

Claire’s lips were pursed, hands on her hips as she regarded the still standing pins before turning to find Benedict trying his face. Eyes narrowing, she said, “Not a word; not a single word. That was a practice throw and doesn’t count.”

The wolf raised his hands in surrender. “Of course. Definitely just a practice throw.”

The second throw – which, to Benedict’s delight, involved another squat

managed to stay out of the gutter, though barely. It did manage to topple one of

“So… one more and nine pins left?,” Claire said as she turned to him and rolled her eyes at seeing the expression on his face. “What’s so funny? I actually gul one that time.”

Telang with himself, Benechet wanted to te!! her the troth – and show her how to properly throw the ball played it was too cute, seeing his mate all dressed up unly to bow! like a child. “If tell you, you’ll stop doing it I’d rather you not

Eyes narrowing again, she marched to Benedict and jabbed her finger into his chest. “Game on, wolf boy.”

Benedict inhaled sharply from the touch but it lasted less than a second before she pulled the guilty finger away, leaving him a little dazed She hadn pushed to know what he found so funny and, instead, made it into a challenge. What exactly, the challenge was he hadn’t 2 clue and didn’t care a little. His mate was making things interesting and it brought a different kind of smile to his face as he watched her bowl her second – actually third

ball down the lane.

Five pins fell over this time, much to Claire’s delight as she cheered. “That’s six!”

Benedict grinned at her enthusiasm. “Nice.”

“Your turn, right?”

“Yeah.”

Claire sat in their little section, looking pretty pleased at what she’d accomplished.
