Aria’s POV

My wolf’s true form? I was stunned.

My wolf’s original form was pure white, medium–sized, with somewhat slender legs. She was agile but not very strong. Quiet unremarkable within the pack.

I never imagined that one day my wolf could be described as large and beautiful.

In my memory, my wolf has appeared in her true form twice. Once was back at the kindergarten when I wanted to protect the children, and the other time was now, when I faced a lethal threat.

Perhaps the seal on me isn’t fully broken yet. So she only appears when I need her the most.

“I–I never thought I could take out a grown werewolf myself,” I said, still shaking. I glanced again at the dead body on the ground. The taste of blood in my mouth made me want to puke.

He tightened his grip on my hand. “You are a royal werewolf. Your power and strength may be greater than you can ever imagine.”

My power and strength? I never thought I had any.

I looked down at my palms. As the fear receded, a wave of excitement rose in my heart.

If I get my wolf back, I’ll never have to fear any enemies around me again. I could take full control of my life. I could get what I want using my own strength.

That’s something I had never experienced before.

“I need to wake my wolf. Fully,” I said quietly, clenching my fists.

I need to find my mother. Eliminate any enemies standing in my way. And if necessary, even take down Alpha Thalira. I’d had these thoughts before, but never this urgently.

“You will,” Grayson said, bringing my hand to his lips for a soft kiss, his voice hoarse. “This time, you got out of danger before I even arrived. Maybe you don’t need me anymore.”

I sensed a trace of faint disappointment in his voice. So I sat up a bit, looking straight into his eyes. “Don’t you want to see me become stronger, more independent?”

He was silent for a moment. When he spoke again, his voice grew deeper, darker.

“If I said I wish you could always rely on me, does that make me a terribly selfish man?”

“Yeah, a bit,” I nodded.

“Then that’s me. Selfish, and possessive. You are already stunning. And now with your new power, every man in the world will be dying to be your mate. I hate it.”

He paused. Then he pulled me into his arms and held me tightly

“But I won’t let it happen. I’m damn sure that I can deal with any nan who dares to get close to you. Only I deserve you, Aira,” he whispered domineeringly in my ear.

His voice sent a shiver down my spine. I didn’t know how to reply. Luckily, with a rush of hurried footsteps, a group of large soldiers appeared among the trees. They were Grayson’s men from Red Stone Pack.

I tried to stand up on my own, but Grayson wouldn’t let me. He cooped me up and carried me in his arms, striding forward.

“Bring that scum’s body with us,” he ordered icily.

“Yes, Alpha!”

He shifted into his wolf and carried me on his back, racing through the forest. The woods that had seemed so vast just moments ago suddenly felt much smaller. In almost no time, we were back at the campsite.

The entire campsite was buzzing. Almost everyone were celebrating. Alpha Thalira sat in her tent, her expression somewhat gloomy. From a distance, I could already see Tasmin and Meave grinning broadly, looking utterly thrilled.

They must think I was already dead.

Eren was the first to spot me. He had been in a heated argument with his father Alpha Bjorn. When he turned and saw me, his face lit up immediately with shock and thrill.

“ARIA!!!”

He cried out loud and dashed toward me.

I wanted to jump down, but Grayson held me even tighter. I glared at him hard, and only then did he reluctantly set me down.

“God, I’ve been searching for you everywhere since you fell! Then I came back here, trying to convince your family to join the search party, but none of them could be bothered to lift a damn finger!” he said angrily.

Well, well, well, why wasn’t I surprised?

What Eren didn’t know was that all my family members wished me dead, the more miserably the better.

My gaze went over Eren’s shoulder to those people. The looks of joy had completely vanished from Tasmin and Meave’s faces, replaced by anger and disbelief. Morrigan and her eldest son couldn’t even hide their disappointment.

“Oh, Aria, so nice to see you got back safely,” Morrigan said, forcing out a fake smile. “All of us have been so worried.”

“Really? But I get the feeling some people didn’t want me to come back at all,” I said, my gaze landing on Tasmin. “Right, Aunt Tasmin?”

Tasmin stiffened for a moment, then snorted. “I just didn’t want to waste resources searching the forest for you. As a werewolf, if you don’t even have the ability to walk out of these woods alive, it’s a total disgrace.”

My expression darkened. “Yet the truth is not only did you not want to save me, you actually sent someone into the forest to murder me!”

I looked at Grayson. He commanded his soldiers, “Bring the body forward.”

Red Stone Pack soldiers dragged the man’s corpse forward and threw it heavily onto the open ground. The sight of the body startled the guests. Almost everyone started screaming and backed away like crazy.

What surprised me was Tasmin and Meave. As two warriors, they were also afraid. Their faces turned pale and they started gagging air.

I raised an eyebrow at them. “What’s the matter, Aunt Tasmin and Cousin Meave? Surely you’ve seen enough dead bodies on the battlefield. This can’t scare you. Or are you feeling guilty? Because he’s the man you sent to murder me!”

Panic flickered across Tasmin’s face. But she quickly cried, “Killing isn’t forbidden in this hunting. There’s no evidence to prove that I sent him! He’s dead, he can’t talk, so you can make any lie you want. Framing your own aunt is a bit too easy

I let out a soft chuckle. “I knew you’d try to wriggle out of it, so I prepared a living piece of evidence too.”

I looked at Eren. He blew a whistle. And two of his soldiers dragged forward a man bound tightly. He was forced to his knees. This was the very man who had ambushed me right after entered the forest.

Eren walked over and looked down at him. “Who sent you to kill Aria? Was it Tasmin?”

The man’s face was covered in blood. He spat, “Fuck you-”

Eren kicked him hard in the face. He fell to the ground, coughing up blood, and then he shouted, “Aria Collins is a disgrace to this pack! We were willing to kill this bitch for Lady Tasmin! Killing her washes away the pack’s stain!”

That meant he admitted Tasmin ordered him!

The guests erupted in shocked discussion. This hunt was clearly turning into a family scandal drama. Tasmin’s face was extremely ugly. She tried to say something but was sharply cut off by Alpha Thalira.

“ENOUGH!”

Alpha Thalira inhaled sharply and then looked over at me, her gaze stern. “They came to kill you, so you had Alpha Grayson kill him? Having an outsider to slaughter your own pack member. Aria, don’t you realize what you did wrong?”

I looked at her, disappointed.

I thought she might care a little about my safety. That upon discovering Tasmin’s attempt to murder me, she might show me a little fairness.

But I was so fucking wrong.

Alpha Thalira didn’t give a shit about me. Her stupid and evil children were more important to her.

So I curled the corner of my mouth into a humorless smile, looking back at Alpha Thalira. “Who told you it was Alpha Grayson?”

“Then who else could it be? Who else has the power to kill a Frostpine Pack warrior?!” Meave snapped.

“Me,” I said, smiling.

A wave of shock rippled through the crowd. Tasmin snarled, “Fucking bullshit! That’s a wolf bite on his neck. You don’t have a wolf!”

“I am royal. My mother is Lady Quentina. How could I not have a wolf?” My gaze swept over the varied expressions in the crowd as I grinned wider. “My wolf has just been sleeping for certain reasons, but that doesn’t mean I don’t have a wolf. Perhaps my wolf has just returned today…in a even more beautiful, more powerful form.”

“N–no, that’s impossible…” Tasmin muttered, her face deathly pale.

Amidst the shocked mutterings, I looked at Alpha Thalira. “Grandmother, you know me and my mother best. If I inherit even one–tenth of her power, that would still make my wolf the strongest one here, wouldn’t it?”

Instantly, all eyes turned to Alpha Thalira.

Our Alpha sat in her throne, looking at me with a complicated expression. After a long moment, she let out a breath and said, “That’s right. Quentina was the strongest of my children. No doubt about it.”
