Aria’s POV

1 waited anxiously in the hall.

What would his parents say to him? Honestly, it wasn’t hard to guess. They’d probably say is through for me. I’d heard that kind of thing enough times to know.

I was brash, not worth the trouble he was going

But what really mattered was–what does Grayson think?

“Don’t worry,” Nora whispered to me, “Alpha Grayson won’t let anyone hurt you.”

I forced a smile. “Thanks”

“Today he was supposed to be in another pack for some really important business, but he turned his plane around just for you. I’ve never seen him care about a girl like this.”

Mrs. Jones had told me the same thing.

Normally I’d feel flattered. But today I didn’t know what had gotten into my head and I just blurted out

Nora froze. For a second, panic flickered across her face. “Wait a second–where did you hear that name?”

The way she reacted made my stomach twist. “She was his ex wife, right? Why does no one know he was married before? What happened

between them?”

She swallowed hard, lowering her voice. “if I were you, I wouldn’t bring up that name again…Especially not in front of Alpha Grayson.”

It felt like something heavy was pressing on my chest.

I was about to ask more when Grayson and Delilah came back.

Jace immediately jumped off the couch and rushed over. “Babe, what’d they say? Can we finally kick her out of the pack tonight?”

“We’ll get another chance,” Delilah replied quickly.

“What? You’re just letting her walk away?” Jace snapped, gripping her hand tight, “I thought we agreed on this–no more being pushovers.”

He ignored me. Just kept walking faster.

We passed through the massive lawn outside the castle, through the iron gates, and into a pitch–black forest.

And then, in the blink of an eye, he shifted.

I screamed as I was tossed into the air, but the next moment I landed on his huge, furry hack.

The wolf charged straight into the woods, sprinting at full speed.

This woll–this was the exact same one I saw in my dreams. Massive, with thick, jet–black fur and powerful limbs.

When he ran, it felt like the entire forest trembled underneath his paws.

*Alpha Grayson! What the hell are you doing?” I yelled into the rushing wind.

He didn’t answer. He just ran even faster.

I could feel it–he needed to let something out. But being carried like this was awful. I had to grip his fur tightly just to avoid flying off, and the wind blasting in my face made it nearly impossible to breathe.

10 minutes in, I couldn’t take it anymore.

“Sorry I wasn’t born with Alpha blood or trained as a warrior,” I gasped, stl feeling sick.

“Then I want to end the contract,” i blurted,

His pupils shrank.

Rage flickered across his face. For a moment, even I was scared.

Then he let out a deafening wolf howl that sent the entire woods of birds flying into the sky.

My lips trembled. Tears blurred my vision. He cursed under his breath.

“I’ve spoiled you too much. Starting now, stop having those stupid fantasies.”

Then he shoved me aside and turned to leave. A few steps in, he shifted into a wolf and vanished into the darkness.

I collapsed to the ground, sobbing with my face in my hands.

I couldn’t believe he just left me here. In the middle of nowhere. I didn’t even know how to get back.

Eventually when I’d cried myself dry, I stood up and prepared to find my way home. One way or another, I had to face it.

But then I heard the low hum of a helicopter circling overhead. A voice echoed from a loudspeaker, calling my name.

I stepped into an open area and waved toward the sky. The helicopter descended with Nora in it.

She told me she was under orders to bring me back.
