Chapter 154 A New Residence
“Fine,” Isabella replied
*Finch
Noticing the curious glances from classmates nearby, she quickly slipped the key card into her bag.
It wasn’t that the gift felt too extravagant to accept–more that she didn’t see a real need for it.
But with Noah on the verge of getting genuinely upset, she decided to take it and simply said, “Thanks.”
“Mhm.”
Noah’s spirits lifted immediately.
He
gave a satisfied hum, then recalled something he’d caught wind of earlier. “Hey, I heard Isaac and his crew went racing last night?
“Don’t waste your time watching their races,” he went on, waving a hand dismissively. “It’s nothing special.
“Later, I’ll take you for a real drive–top–tier performance.
“I’m a legit speed demon, no joke.”
He said it with full enthusiasm, eyes bright.
Isabella looked at him, mildly amused. “Sure, speed demon.
“How did the homework go yesterday? How many problems did you finish?”
Noah’s expression instantly deflated.
Ever since he’d told Isabella she could work him like a dog, the assignments she gave him had become noticeably tougher than before.
He’d stayed up until three in the morning and still only completed a little over half.
Sheepishly, he pulled out the papers and handed them over. “Only about half,” he admitted, holding up hi pinky for emphasis.
“Seriously, Isabella… am I just not cut out for this?”
He scratched the back of his head restlessly..
If he didn’t pull decent grades on these midterms, it’d be beyond embarrassing.
But time just wasn’t on his side.
A frustrated, restless energy buzzed under his skin, though in front of Isabella he made an effort to keep the irritation–and the urge to rip something up–in check.
Even so, he felt off, weighed down by doubt.

Isabella’s expression remained calm. “No,” she said evenly.
“With me, there’s no suck thing as ‘not cut out for it.“”
If Noah wanted to do well on the midterms, she’d make sure he
got there.

While Isabella and Noah were in class, Eugene, on the other side of town, had received word from his contacts about Powell Group’s latest move.
“They’re really launching the Neural–Network Interface System by the end of the month?” Eugene’s tone was low, his gaze turning sharp.
Over in the Carter Group conference room, Eugene sat at the heart of the table surrounded by senior
executives.
When he posed the question, one of the VPs answered gravely, “That’s what we’re hearing from both Powell Group and Bexley Group.
“They’re saying their jointly developed Neural–Network Interface System has made a major breakthroug with a finished product expected within the next month or two.
“Full–scale production will take longer, but as a consumer–ready model, it’s essentially market–ready…
The executive paused, his brow slightly furrowed. “What’s our play here, Mr. Carter? This move from Powell Group is clearly targeted at us.
“Word is they’re planning to hold their press conference the same day as ours–they want to unveil their product alongside ours, right in front of the market/
The intel had come through informal channels, but if the rumor was already circulating, Powell Group was clearly serious.
The man speaking was deeply concerned.
He knew their own project—the Neural–Network Interface System Carter Group was developing–was stil mostly an empty shell.
Eugene had obtained detailed research materials from that mysterious outsider Vex, but technical breakthroughs couldn’t be rushed.
Frankly, they’d started too late. However talented the specialized R&D team Eugene had pulled together from Carter Group’s top talent might be, they couldn’t match the years of head start Powell and Bexley had.
Not in this short a timeframe.
And they certainly couldn’t achieve the same level of precision and data control.
To be honest, the executive wasn’t optimistic about their own product’s chances.
In fact, he still didn’t fully understand why Eugene had greenlit this project in the first place, or why he
