Chapter 226 The Agreement
“Rather than scheming in the shadows like this…”
She shot him a pointed look as she spoke.
Adrian laughed–a dry, humorless sound. “Ms. Carter, if you’ll recall, you’re sitting right here discussin those very schemes with us.”
Audrey set her spoon down with a soft clink against her coffee cup and lifted her gaze, her eyes sharp a compelling. “Exactly,” she replied.
She leaned back slightly, a faint, cool smile touching her lips. “That’s precisely why I’m here–to talk ter with you.
“Then why play innocent?
“If we’re going to be partners, we should be straight with each other.
“I’ll repeat myself: I want fifty percent of Carter Group’s assets and equity. Equivalent holdings are acceptable. No negotiations.
“After all, you’re aware that even if I can’t access Carter Group’s servers or examine the core architecture their Neural–Network Interface System, I have Jeremy backing me.
“If he releases a statement exposing flaws in Carter Group’s product–or even points out critical errors in your source code–do you really believe you’d still have a shot at taking over Carter’s holdings?
“The shareholders at Carter Group aren’t fools.
“Truth is, what Eugene pulled this time has left a lot of people nervous and unhappy.
“You’ve been bankrolling all that positive press for them, but deep down, you don’t want Carter Group backing out at the last minute, do you?
“I know my cousin. If he believes Carter Group can pull it off, he won’t retreat. But what if the board refuse to greenlight the project, or regulators flag the product as non–compliant?”
Audrey gave a light, knowing chuckle. “Not to mention, your own product wouldn’t hold up under serious scrutiny either.
“If I weren’t interested in Carter Group’s assets, I could easily turn around and partner with my cousin. Wha would you be able to do about it?
“With Jeremy in my corner, I carry the strongest endorsement there is.
“Besides, your own prototype at Powell Group is nearly ready for launch, isn’t it?
“With Jeremy supporting you, why bother fighting my cousin so aggressively?
“Why not just release a solid product and crush Carter underfoot–how does that sound?
“First, you publicly confirm that Carte Group’s product is faulty. Then, out of nowhere, your own

groundbreaking tech hits the market. All that media hype around Carter ends up praising you.
“Your low–key launch happens quietly, right on schedule.
“You’d completely overshadow Carter’s offering–in reputation, market value, everything.
“And Carter Group would collapse overnight.
“Wouldn’t you prefer to come out as the real victors here?”
Audrey spoke with easy confidence, a persuasive smile playing on her lips.
Once she’d realized Powell Group’s product had vulnerabilities, she knew this partnership was hers to
secure.
She would be the only one walking away a winner.
They had no choice but to work with her.
Otherwise, they’d sink themselves.
“Fine. We agree.”
Adrian and Marcus exchanged a tense glance before reluctantly conceding.
Audrey had them cornered perfectly.
If they refused, nobody would win.
That woman was too sharp–how had she figured it all out?
Damn it. Having Jeremy’s backing was her ultimate trump card.
After Adrian spoke, Audrey rose gracefully from her seat. “Then, happy partnering.”
“Mr. Powell, Mr. BC You
might want to brighten up a little.
“After all, once we’re in this together, we all have leverage on each other.
“That’s what makes the most reliable partnership, wouldn’t you say?
“I’d never double–cross you to side with the Carters,
“In fact. I hope you come out on top in this corporate battle.
“Because whatever you gain… I gain as well.”
She offered a faint, deliberate smile. “Oh, and one more thing–that young girl, Isabella. She’s your sister, isn’t she?*
